摘要： Lead-contaminated soil and battery casings are remediated using a plasma arc furnace which pyrolyzes the soil and waste battery casings so as to form a vitrified slag and a combustible gas, respectively. The combustible gas along with volatilized lead (and other heavy metals which may be present) are transferred to, and used as a primary fuel by, a conventional smelting furnace. The volatilized lead that is entrained in the combustible gas is thus transferred to the recovery and environmental protection/control equipment associated with the smelting furnace. The soil, on the other hand, is converted into a non-toxic (i.e., according to the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure) vitrified slag by the plasma arc which may be crushed and used as a commercial material (e.g., roadway aggregate, asphalt filler material and the like) or simply transferred to a landfill where it poses no environmental threat.

摘要： The invention relates to a method for producing lead from sulphidic lead raw-materials by direct smelting processes of the kind in which the lead raw-materials are smelted autogenously in a shaft with the aid of oxygen gas, or air enriched in oxygen, optionally by adding fluxes, there being formed an oxide-containing molten product which is caused to pass into a coke bed arranged in the lower part of the shaft, to form a lead phase and a slag depleted in lead. The invention is characterized by heating the coke bed continuously, by partially combusting carbon therein and/or by supplying electrical energy thereto.The electrical heating is preferably effected by supplying electrical energy through induction or through electrodes.When heating the coke bed by the partial combustion of coke in the bed, oxygen gas or air enriched in oxygen is preferably introduced directly into the coke bed, through tuyeres or lances.

摘要： A method and apparatus for the continuous production of metals and/or carbides by thermal reduction is described. In the process, a mixture of metal oxide and carbon is agglomerated, each piece of agglomerate encased in carbon and/or graphite, the carbon casing serves as a housing of the agglomerate during the reducing reaction and as an electrical resistance element for heating of the agglomerate, the encased agglomerates are coked and reduced to metal carbide in a tightly-packed form. Extraction of the metal from the carbide is effected with a halide of the same metal.

摘要： A method comprising the steps of supplying a carbonaceous reducer in a layer onto the surface of molten slag and feeding an oxygen-free gas into said slag in an amount and at a rate ensuring recirculation of said slag with its outflow onto the surface of said carbonaceous reducer layer and filtration therethrough. An electric furnace for carrying into effect said method, comprising a space defined by walls resting on a hearth and supporting a roof wherein are fixed electrodes, devices for charging slag and a carbonaceous reducer into the furnace, and there are provided tuyeres adapted for supplying an oxygen-free gas into the slag, said tuyeres being spaced apart at a distance substantially equal to that of 3 to 6 electrode diameters, and at a distance of 1 to 3 electrode diameters from the furnace walls the bottom nozzle edges of said tuyeres being in space relationship with the horizontal axis of either a matte or metal tapping notches with a distance therebetween of 0.3 to 2 electrode diameters.
