    • An elongated trailer has a frame with longitudinally extending frame members connected by front and rear cross frame members, and a pair of wheels are pivotally connected to opposite ends of each of the front and rear cross frame members. A steering system includes a front steering crank member connected to a tow bar and supported by the front cross frame member for pivotal movement on a vertical axis, and a rear steering crank member is supported by the rear cross frame member for pivotal movement on a vertical axis. A set of tie rods pivotally connect the front and rear crank members to the corresponding front and rear wheels. An elongated link member or rod connects the front and rear crank members and extends longitudinally of the frame substantially above the bottom surfaces of the frame members to protect the steering system from projecting objects on the ground.

    • A steering apparatus for a zero-turn radius vehicle using a steering mechanism coupled to a first set of wheel assemblies by a plurality of cables. User input to the steering mechanism causes the cables to turn the first set of wheel assemblies about a vertical axis. Specifically, the cables link the steering mechanism to cam mechanisms that are attached to each wheel assembly. The design of the cam mechanism, which preferably includes two cams of varying radii, enables the two wheel assemblies to rotate about their vertical axes at varied degrees of rotation and greater than ninety degrees from the forward facing position, thereby resulting in zero-turn radius capability.

    • A steering system for steering a plurality of conveyor vehicles connected together in the form of a train. The vehicle has a first pair of wheels which can be steered by an operator as the train moves. There are further pairs of steerable wheels connected to the second and subsequent vehicles in the train and supporting same. There are hydraulic cylinders for steering each of the pairs of steerable wheels on the second and subsequent vehicles and a control mechanism for controlling these cylinders in order to set the steering angle of each further pair. This control mechanism includes means for determining the current steering angle of the first pair of wheels and generating an electrical signal indicative thereof and means for storing a series of these electrical signals as the train is travelling. Further means determine the amount of time the wheels in the train have been travelling and there is a calculator for determining the location of each of the further pairs of wheels on the basis of the determined travel time. A second electrical signal is generated for each further pairs of wheels in order to control its respective hydraulic cylinder and thereby set the steering angle of each pair at the same steering angle that the first pair of wheels had when they were at that location.

    • An axle arrangement for a vehicular trailer is provided. This arrangement includes at least one rigid guide axle and therebehind a follower steering axle having wheel and tire assemblies that are connected to a rigid axle member via control levers and are interconnected via a tie bar. The axle members of the guide axle and of the follower steering axle are supported via connecting springs on brackets and pneumatic cushioning bellows that are secured to the chassis of the trailer. So that the follower steering axle can have the same connection dimension relative to the longitudinal members of the trailer as does the rigid guide axle, the connecting springs of the follower steering axle, between the forward brackets and the axle member, are bent inwardly toward the center of the axle member by an amount that is equal at most to half the difference between a center to center distance of the connecting springs of the rigid guide axle and the follower steering axle.
