    • A connector system is disclosed for interconnecting prewired, prefabricated modules, such as panels or housing units, with the connector system providing positive wiring and locked electrical interconnection. The subject connector system includes both hermaphroditic housings and terminals with the housings providing interlocking between mating connector members and the terminals providing ease of assembly. There are several embodiments of the connector, a first is a splice to be used for intermating cables running between modular units, a second is a panel mounting used for interconnecting a modular unit with a power distribution panel or the like, and a third is a T-connection to be used for making a line tap. The terminals include an insulation displacing slot for engagement with a conductor and the cover member of the connector is profiled to drive the conductors into the respective slotted beam portions of the associated terminals. The housings and terminals are also profiled for engaging the conductors in only one way so as to obviate miswiring of the connectors.

    • An electrical coupling device which can make efficient electrical contact with the electrically conducting part or parts of one or more insulated electrical conductors without the need for baring all the insulation from the conductor or conductors and without the need for actuating with a tool some form of connection member. The coupling device includes a body portion which has an electrically insulating part and electrically conducting means which comprises metallic piercing means. The coupling device also includes a conductor-locating means which has guiding means for guiding the piercing means along a specific path in the locating means when the locating means and the body portion are assembled together in an operative position. While the conductor-locating means and the body portion are moved relative to one another along said specific path during assembly of the two parts, the piercing means is adapted to pierce the insulation of, and make electrical contact with, the electrically conducting part of an insulated electrical conductor in the locating means, and the locating means and the body portion are releasably retained in the operative position, at least when an insulated electrical conductor is located in the locating means. The coupling device is suitable for use in mains voltage systems, for example as an electric plug, ceiling rose or lamp-holder, or in low voltage systems, for example automobile wiring systems.

    • A connector assembly is disclosed for terminating multi-conductor flat flexible cable with contacts which pierce the insulation to make good electrical and mechanical engagement with all types of multi-conductor cable conductors, in particular, round wire and stranded wire conductors. Each contact is die stamped from sheet material and has a body portion with a pin or socket electrical termination means extending from one side and a cantilever arm extending from the other side with a forked projection on the free end thereof. The forked projection is angularly offset with respect to the plane of the contact and substantially normal to the longitudinal axis of the arm. The connector assembly includes a multi-part housing including a contact block mounted in a housing shell and a pair of mating housing members pivotally mounted in the housing shell and adapted to close driving the forked projection of the contact through the associated cable to grip the other of the housing members thereby securely holding the assembly together.

    • A multicontact electrical connector comprising a two-piece connector housing in which electrical contacts are mounted within one of the housing sections. The rearward ends of the contacts are provided with slotted tubular termination sections which are adapted to receive insulated wires to form electrical and mechanical connections between the contacts and the wires. The second section of the housing functions as a tool which forcibly inserts the wires into the termination sections of the contacts at an acute angle. A plurality of wires may be connected to the contacts simultaneously at a work site without the necessity of any special tool or fixture. The termination sections of the contacts may be utilized for terminating flat cables as well as insulated round wires.

    • Contact means for an electrical connector comprises a slotted metallic member having selectively configured leg portions extending from a base portion, each of said leg portions being skewed about its longitudinal axis at a given angle to the plane of the base portion so that the force of a conductor inserted within the slot between adjacent leg portions will cause such leg portions to be rotationally displaced in a similar direction from their original position while providing secure mechanical and electrical engagement between the conductor and the inner edges of the leg portions defining said slot. The rotational displacement of the leg members provides increased slot width variation while maintaining a substantially constant pitch between the leg portion to permit the accommodation of a wide range of conductor sizes therebetween without causing undue stress or permanent deformation of the leg portions.
