    • A CRDS unlatching tool includes a support assembly and a latching assembly, wherein the support assembly is received within the latching assembly in a manner wherein the latching assembly is moveable relative to the support assembly. The support assembly has a plurality of latch fingers and at least one pin, each of the latch fingers being movable between a latched position wherein the latch finger is structured to engage and hold the CRDS an unlatched position wherein the latch finger is structured to not engage the CRDS. The latching assembly includes a first sleeve member and a second sleeve member, the second sleeve member having at least one slot, wherein the at least one pin is moveably received within the at least one slot. The latching assembly is movable from a latched state to an unlatched state wherein the latch fingers are actuated by the first sleeve member.

    • A safety grapple for releasably joining an object to be moved to a device for moving the same. Provision is made to cycle the grapple (10) through at least two release procedures before actual release can be effected. This is accomplished through the use of lug actuator cam plate 50 which rotates unidirectionally a selected amount for each upward and downward movement of a central shaft (22) of the grapple (10). This cam (50), with cam followers (52) mounted on the lugs (54), is shaped such that the lugs (54) are pivoted out of engagement with the object (100) only after a selected number of shaft reciprocations. In a specific embodiment, the grapple (10) requires two full cycles of shaft movement before lug release is effected on the third cycle. This prevents inadvertent release of the object (100), a feature especially important in the handling of hazardous material. The actuator cam (50) rotation is effected by a first (44) and a further toothed indexing cam (46) directly connected to the actuating cam (50), and a cam follower (48) mounted from the shaft (22) that moves between these toothed cams (44,46) as the shaft is reciprocated. An annunciator, in the form of a signal flag (90), provides a visual indication of the status of the actuating cam (50) and thus the lugs (54).

    • A container having a neck 15 is engageable at that neck with a hoist termination 40. The container is supported at the neck 15 by a ball latch 12 in a shielding flask 11 from which it can be lowered through the base of the flask. The termination 40 is provided with a ball latch releasing rod 51 and single-handed raisable and lowerable sleeve 43 which in the raised position allows engagement of the hoist termination 40 and container neck 15 at screw threads 28, 42 but prevents operation of the releasing rod 51 and in the lowered position allows operation of the release rod 51 but prevents disengagement of the hoist termination 40 and container neck 15.

    • A gripping device, especially for use for depositing and withdrawing fuel elements and control rods in a nuclear reactor, in which the gripping device has an upper body part connected to a hoisting and transporting mechanism and a lower part reciprocably suspended on the upper part. The lower part at the bottom has gripping means for engaging a gripping tool which, in turn, has gripping means for engaging a fuel element or a control rod. The lower part of the body has a power operable device for each of the gripping means and each power operable device is spring urged toward coupling position. A locking device pivotally mounted in the lower part of the body is actuated into locking position by upward movement of the upper part on the lower part and when in locking position locks the power operable device in coupling position.
