    • The invention is concerned with a process for bringing a body of water into communication with a tunnel extending under the bed of the body of water. A cavity is excavated under the end of the tunnel adjacent the body of water, to a depth such that the volume of the cavity is at least equal to the volume of the ground forming the roof of the cavity and between the cavity and the bed of the body of water. The roof of the cavity is then collapsed and is received in the cavity.The invention is particularly useful in the connection of a pipe placed in the tunnel to an installation or pipe which is eventually immersed. For example a pipe may be provided on the bed of the body of water to be connected to a pipe in the tunnel, the connection being made after the cavity roof has been collapsed by introducing a pipe portion between the ends of the immersed and underground pipes.

    • This invention relates to a V-Block and an underwater construction comprising said V-Block which is capable of forming an undersea platform construction system. The V-Block is comprised of an elongated lower anchor member, two legs of unequal length contiguous with and extending upwardly and outwardly from said anchor and upper arms contiguous with the terminous of each of the two legs. The elongated lower anchor member has means for interlocking with adjacent anchor members and the two arms also have means of interlocking with adjacent arms of the other V-Blocks. A more complex underwater platform construction system is also disclosed.

    • An apparatus for erecting a bridge structure which is adapted to be disposed above a body of water includes an elongated bridge member and a support tower pivotably mounted upon the bridge member. The support tower includes a caisson which has a jacking member telescopically mounted therein at its upper end and the support tower is further provided with a plurality of pile sleeves mounted upon its lower end, such that the support tower may be anchored to the surface underlying the body of water. The bridge structure has a gas flare line and a gas flare tip associated therewith.A method for erecting a bridge structure above a body of water includes the steps of transporting a prefabricated bridge structure to a location adjacent an existing structure, pivoting a support tower associated with the bridge structure until it is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bridge structure, connecting one end of the bridge structure to the existing structure while the support tower is still in a spaced relationship with respect to the surface underlying the body of water, extending the support tower until it is in contact with the surface underlying the body of water, and then anchoring the support tower to the underwater surface. A gas flare line and gas flare tip is installed on the bridge structure.

    • This invention provides an apparatus and method for making underwater connections between structural members and a plurality of supporting piles. The piles are driven to elevations equal to or below design elevation. A spacer is mounted on the top of any pile that is below design elevation to distribute the load of a structural member among the piles and to support the member at design elevation. Hollow form members having openings are mounted on the underside of the structural member so that the piles will extend into the openings when the structural member is lowered onto the piles. The openings in the form members are sufficiently large to accommodate substantial horizontal displacement of the upper end of the pile thereby allowing the piles to be driven to less stringent tolerance. The space in each opening between each form member and each pile is filled with cement to connect the structural member to the piles.
