    • A numerical controller is provided wherein each time one data block of a numerical control program is transferred from a second buffer register to an active register, another data block successive thereto is transferred from a data storage device to a first buffer register and wherein a plunge infeed between a cylindrical workpiece and a grinding wheel of a grinding machine is effected in accordance with data block being stored in the active register. The numerical controller halts an automatic machining operation in response to a halt command of a data block in the active register. Compensation data is input during the halt of the automatic machining operation whereafter a restart command is input. The numerical controller modified feed command data of the numerical control program stored in the data storage device, based upon the compensation data. In response to the restart command, the numerical controller transfers to the first buffer register a modified data block successive to that including the halt command, whereby the grinding wheel is moved in accordance with the modified data block transferred then to the active register.

    • The present invention relates to a production system (1) for the series manufacture of products, comprising a processing device (2) which, as a function of control commands, actuates a tool for processing one of the products, a measuring device (3) for the automatic measuring of a geometric actual dimension at one of the processed products, a correcting device (4) which is coupled to the processing device (2) and to the measuring device (3) and which compares the actual dimension with a preset target dimension which lies within a tolerance interval. The correcting device intervenes in a corrective manner in the control commands of the tool if the actual dimension lies outside an intervention interval which lies within the tolerance interval.

    • A system and method for controlling operation of a machine tool such as a grinder wherein engagement of the machine tool with a workpiece is controlled in real time by a workpiece measurement signal from a gage likewise engaged with the workpiece. The measurement gage is periodically brought into measuring engagement with a gage master having a predetermined master dimension relative to the desired machined size of the workpiece. The resulting gage master measurement signal is compared with a reference, and a compensation signal is generated and stored as a function of the magnitude and polarity of any departure from the gage master measurement signal from the gage master reference signal. Thereafter, during the machining mode of operation, motion of the machine tool is controlled as a combined function of the workpiece measurement signal and the compensation signal generated and stored during the calibration mode of operation.
