    • Fire extinguishers include portions formed of heat fusible material that contain powderized fire extinguishing material. The heat fusible material releases the fire extinguishing material upon exposure to predetermined temperatures, and is preferably self-extinguishing. Such extinguishers may contain collection layers which collect the heat fusible material during a fire in order to minimize future gratuitous untidiness otherwise caused by coagulated heat fusible material on floors, furniture, and other surfaces. The extinguishers may conveniently be formed in panels which may supplant SHEETROCK.RTM. or ceiling panels, and thus escape notice of the casual observer. Similarly, a collar according to the present invention may be placed around the flue of a kitchen ventilator and effectively fight fire but remain out of sight. The extinguishers may also take the form of faux implements such as frying pans which may be hung on the wall, but which, when needed, serve effectively as fire extinguishers to release powderized material under the fires.

    • An automatically activated fire extinguishing apparatus mounted within a stove hood. The apparatus has a plastic bag liner enclosing a composition of fire extinguishing materials under pressure within a metal necked container. A pressure gauge housing having an interior channel containing an end of the plastic liner separates the necked container from an actuating header. A plastic nipple, located in a channel of the actuating header, closes an open end of an insert connected to the plastic liner. A fire sensitive device actuates a trigger which causes a cutting ram to sever the end of the nipple to permit exit of the fire extinguishing composition.

    • The extinguishing apparatus of this invention comprises a cartridge casing provided with a jet nozzle device, a flexible extinguishing liquid cartridge which is coupled in plug-in manner to the jet nozzle device by inserting from the open end of the cartridge casing into the interior of the casing, a cap for closing the open end of the casing, a joint for coupling the interior and exterior of the cartridge casing, and a discharge unit for coupling by plug-in manner to the joint. The cartridge is made possigle to discharge the extinguishing material, when it is compressed by a force from the outside, and the discharge unit feeds incombustible high pressure gas into the cartridge casing either automatically when the temperature of environment is reached over a predetermined temperature, or by handling manually. Aaccording to this, the cartridge is compressed, the extinguishing material discharged from the cartridge is jetted from the jet nozzle device.

    • A self-activating fire extinguisher which is particularly useful as a Christmas tree ornament is comprised of a thin-walled sealed glass container having a quantity of a fire extinguishing liquid such as Halon 2402 contained therein. When in the vicinity of a fire, the temperature of the liquid will rise causing it to boil which increases the pressure within the container. Eventually the container will break, releasing the liquid; the fumes from which extinguish the fire. In order to prevent glass fragments from being thrown about when the container breaks, the majority of the container is coated with a plastic material. This material adheres to the glass and maintains the broken pieces of glass together even at high temperatures. The liquid and fumes are released through a small portion of the container that is not coated by the plastic.
