    • The present disclosure discloses a method for traffic counting, in which an address space for storing the traffic data of a user is allocated in a wireless network card. The method includes the following steps of: within a preset counting period, counting uplink traffic and downlink traffic after the wireless network card accesses the network, and updating the traffic data of the current online user stored in the address space of the wireless network card. The present disclosure also provides a method for automatically calculating a cost of surfing a network, including the following steps of: monitoring updated charging standards in real time or periodically; within a preset counting period, counting uplink traffic and downlink traffic and updating the traffic data corresponding to the current user; and within a preset charging period, calculating the current cost of surfing a network of the current day or the current month according to a charging standard for surfing the network and the traffic data of the current user. Accordingly, the present disclosure further provides a device for traffic counting and a device for automatically calculating a cost of surfing a network.

    • A method for establishing a Diameter session for packet flow based charging with multiple ways for establishing the Diameter session between a TPF and a CRF. The Diameter session can be established for each bearer of each subscriber, which means that for GPRS the Diameter session is established for each PDP Context State Model of each subscriber. The Diameter session can also be established for the bearers with a same APN of each subscriber. The Diameter session can further be established for all the bearers of each subscriber. The invention improves the mechanism for establishing Diameter sessions and makes the implementation of the charging flow more integrated. Moreover, the multiple ways for establishing Diameter sessions between the TPF and the CRF provided in the present invention can be flexibly selected according to the practical charging applications.

    • A communications system in which event based charging is implemented and in which service flows between end user equipments and application servers are filtered for charging purposes by a traffic plane function (TPF). The TPF identifies a service flow between an end user equipment and an application server and implements event based charging by sending a message to an Event Owner for the service flow requesting notification of Events associated with the service flow. The Event Owner sends a message containing an Event Result to the TPF when an Event associated with the service flow occurs and the TPF correlates the Event Result with the service flow. This correlation may include the matching of the Event Result to the service flow which the TPF then notifies to a billing control function so that the billing control function can bill the end user appropriately based on the Events. This correlation may also include the matching of the Event Result to a data download detected by the TPF on the service flow so that the system operator can confirm that the service flows filtered by the TPF match the Events notified to the TPF by the Event Owner.

    • Access to a communications network may be provided via a data provider that may charge for access. In some cases, the access fee may be related to the amount of network resources consumed (e.g., amount of data downloaded or bandwidth used). In some cases, a user may have access to a particular amount of data provider resources and be required to pay an additional fee for using resources in excess of the particular amount. To assist the user in managing his data resource consumption, a resource utilization component may provide different alerts and notices informing the user of current consumption, expected future consumption, and recommendations for reducing data provider resources consumed (e.g., stopping particular processes or data provider requests, such as downloading media). If several electronic devices in a network are connected to the same data provider resources, a network component may manage the data provider resource use among the several electronic devices (e.g., allow only particular users or devices access).
