    • A circuit breaker includes a handle having OFF, ON and intermediate positions, and an extension. A blocking disk has a spring, and first, second and third surfaces. The handle and disk are co-pivotally mounted. The extension engages the third surface for rotation therewith. A pivot lever includes a first end adapted for engagement with a movable contact arm, and a second end adapted for engagement with the first and second surfaces. The first surface blocks the second end as the handle moves from OFF toward the intermediate position, and releases the second end to the second surface at the intermediate position. The first end blocks movement of the movable contact arm when the first surface blocks the second end, and releases the movable contact arm when the first surface releases the second end, thereby moving a movable contact toward a fixed contact in response to the bias of a spring.

    • An AC/DC switch for electric power tools avoids bouncing when turned on, but assures quick cutting-off of heavy current. Operation does not vary with age, as might be caused by wearing of projections of the switching mechanism and/or inconsistency in spring material. A reversal spring quickly switches the mechanism on and off so that the movable contacts are brought close to the stationary contacts before the turning-on, thereby permitting the turning-on subsequent to traverse of the reversal point without bouncing of the movable contacts from the stationary contacts, and preventing movement of the movable contacts before reversal spring has stored increased energy, thus allowing quick release of stored energy to make the movable contacts leave the stationary contacts at a speed sufficient to prevent electric arcs between the movable and stationary contacts, and hence prevent the wearing of the contacts.

    • A mechanism for the rapid closure of electrical contacts on a modular electrical apparatus includes movable electrical contacts that pivot with respect to a rotatable contact support and are maintained in a rest position by springs. A manually actuated control lever imparts opposing rotary movements to the control lever and the movable contacts. A cam, driven by the control lever, and a finger attached to each movable contact move in paths that intersect when the movable contacts are separated from the fixed contacts. The cam and finger are locked during a portion of control lever rotation before it reaches a stable position wherein the fixed and movable contacts are closed. The contact support continues to travel while a contact spring accumulates energy, which is dissipated only when the cam and finger separate. During a final stage of motion of the control lever, the cam freely rotates relative to the control lever, with its range of motion being limited only by a stop element on the cam.

    • A switch includes a contact mechanism having at least one contact and defining a longitudinal axis.     • A current switching device includes stationary contacts, and movable contacts which are movable between a position in which the movable contacts engage the stationary contacts and a position in which the movable contacts separate from the stationary contacts. The movable contacts are mounted on a movable contact holder. A magnetic locking element includes a permanent magnet and is pivotally mounted about a fixed axis. The actuation armature is movable in proximity to the magnetic locking elements such that the actuation armature is locked to the magnetic locking element by magnetic attraction with the movable contacts engaging the stationary contacts. An opening armature is movable between a rest position and a position in proximity to the magnetic locking element, such that the opening armature is locked to the magnetic locking element by magnetic attraction. When the opening armature is in proximity to the magnetic locking element, the magnetic attraction between the actuation armature and the magnetic locking element is reduced such that the actuation armature is freed to permit the movable contacts to separate from the stationary contacts. A tripping device is sensitive to a current overload and causes the opening armature to move to the position in proximity to the magnetic locking element.
