    • Xeroprinting is performed without fusing a master toner image. A master toner image is made by conventional electrophotography, for example, by charging, imagewise exposing and applying toner to a photoconductive imaging member to create a first toner image. The first toner image is charged with charges of a first polarity opposite that of the toner image and the member is erased with erase illumination through its base. This creates a toner image with a charge opposite that of the original toner image which is tightly held by opposite charges which have migrated to the portion of the electrophotosensitive member just under the toner. The imaging member is then toned again with toner of the same polarity as the original toner to create a second toner image that overlies the first toner image. The imaging member is again erased through its base, and the second toner image is transferred to a receiving sheet without disturbing the first toner image. The toner image may then be used as a master to repeat the process but without the necessity of creating the master toner image again.

A charge transport spacing layer comprising a film forming binder and a charge transport compound may be employed between the substrate and the softenable layer in order to increase the contrast potential associated with the surface changes of the latent image.

    • An opaque reflective print copy is produced by transferring via heat and pressure, an electrophotographically formed toner image to a presoftened transparent thermoplastic thin layer carried bonded to an opaque substrate. The print is formed of at least one generally planar toner image layer embedded in the plastic layer near the outer surface thereof whereby light illuminating the print enters the thin layer and is reflected from the interface between said layer and said substrate, passing through the toner particles as well as being reflected from the toner particles themselves, whereby to provide an image having greater depth intensity and contrast than can be obtained using silver halide photographic film, all without distortion of the image, loss in density or loss in resolution. The substrate may have smooth or roughened surface, and may be selected from plain or coated paper, metal, stone, stretchable and/or inflatable media as well as irregularly shaped objects. Successive toner images may be applied superimposed one on the other in layers and in registry by softening the thermoplastic layer after transfer thereto of one toner image and applying the next toner image thereto. The intermediate heating embeds the toner image and readies the receptor to receive the next toner image.

    • A duplicating process wherein a charge pattern is formed on the surface of an insulating member. The insulating member is backed by a conductive member and is placed in an electroded system. The opposing electrode is a conductive member having on its surface in imagewise configuration a layer of a material which upon application of electrical field alone will generate charge carriers. An insulating layer is provided between the imagewise generating material and the insulating member. Application of electrical field causes the formation of a charge pattern on the surface of the insulating member corresponding to the imagewise charge carrier generating material. The charge pattern may then be rendered visible using conventional techniques. The process is particularly applicable to the repetitive formation of images.
