    • An electric shutter with a positive motion device that insures positive action of the shutter. The shutter has a depressable release member that is restored by a spring when pressure thereon is released so that the release member is reset when the shutter is opened. When the shutter is cocked the mechanical positive motion device is mechanically releasably locked maintaining the shutter blade or blades against biasing springs. When the release member is depressed the shutter is opened and an electromagnet of an exposure control circuit is energized and an attractable lever in the positive motion device is held attracted by the energized electromagnet releasably controlling the release of members that release the shutter blade or blades for actuation to a shutter-closing position. A mechanical locking member in conjunction with a press lever in the positive control device positively locks the attractable lever in the same position as when attracted when the shutter is cocked. Upon energization of the electromagnet the mechanical locking member is released and positive actuation of the attractable element is insured even though the release member is restored by a biasing spring thereof.

    • A focal plane shutter includes first and second shutter blades mounted for forming a slit that is scanned across an aperture. The shutter blades are shaped to form the slit between a trailing edge of the first blade and a leading edge of the second blade, the width of the slit being determined by the relative position of the first and second blades with respect to each other. The velocity of the slit across the aperture is determined by the velocity of the two blades. A pair of moving coil actuators are connected to the blades, for moving the blades relative to the aperture, and a pair of position sensors are connected, one to each shutter blade, for producing signals indicating the positions of the shutter blades relative to the aperture. A shutter controller electrically connected to the moving coil actuators and the position sensors is responsive to the signals from the position sensors for applying power to drive the actuators to control the width of the slit formed by the shutter blades and the rate of movement of the slit across the aperture. The controller includes a velocity controller for the first blade to control the velocity of the slit across the aperture, and a position controller for controlling the position of the second blade relative to the first blade to maintain a constant slit width as the slit is moved relative to the aperture.

    • An electronic shutter mechanism for a still camera comprises a shutter blade, preferably carrying a solenoid armature, urged by a first spring into an initial lens aperture closing position. An initially latched actuating member for moving the shutter blade to a lens aperture exposing position carries a normally energized solenoid coil to attract the shutter blade carried armature thereto so that the shutter blade moves with the actuating member until the coil is deenergized. When the actuating member is unlatched, a second spring urges the actuating member and the shutter blade magnetically attached thereto into a lens aperture opening position against the return force of the first spring. Upon the unlatching of the actuating member a timing circuit establishes a timing period depending upon the amount of ambient light, after which the solenoid coil is deenergized so the first spring returns the shutter blade quickly to a lens aperture closing position.
