    • A method of focusing fully-coherent circular synthetic aperture sonar (CSAS) imagery is provided. A k-space representation of the CSAS image is generated using the two dimensional Fast-Fourier Transform (FFT). Sub-aperture images are generated by windowing the k-space representation and applying the two dimensional inverse FFT to the windowed spectrum. All adjacent complex sub-aperture images are correlated, the correlation peaks are detected and the relative shifts in X and Y as a function of look-angle are recorded. The relative shifts between adjacent sub-apertures are integrated and the means are subtracted to find the absolute shift as a function of look-angle. A motion-solution is calculated by exploiting the relationship between apparent scene shift and actual vehicle sway. The motion estimation is used to generate a phase-correction matrix that is multiplied by the k-space representation of the fully-coherent image.

    • A sound navigation and ranging (SONAR) transducer system comprises a transmit element and a receive element. The transmit element may be formed from ceramic material and configured to transmit an ultrasonic signal into a body of water. The transmit element may include a first component configured to transmit the ultrasonic signal in a first direction and a second component configured to transmit the ultrasonic signal in a second direction. The receive element may be formed from polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) in the shape of a sheet of material and configured to receive a reflection of the ultrasonic signal after the ultrasonic signal is reflected from objects in the body of water. The receive element may include a first section configured to receive reflections from the first direction and a second section configured to receive reflections from the second direction.

    • A transceiving device includes a transmission signal generating module for generating a transmission signal that is frequency-modulated by a predetermined frequency sweep width, a transceiver module for transmitting a pulse signal having substantially the same waveform as a waveform of the transmission signal and receiving an echo signal corresponding to the transmission signal from a detection range, and a pulse-compression filter for pulse-compressing the echo signal received by the transceiver module. The pulse-compression filter has an input/output characteristic. The characteristic has, when the pulse-compression filter is inputted with an input signal having substantially the same waveform as the waveform of the transmission signal, a window function shape such that a phase spectrum of an output signal corresponding to the input signal is linear and an amplitude spectrum of the output signal does not have a frequency component other than a frequency band with which a frequency sweep is carried out.
