    • It is possible to provide a frequency characteristics measuring device which can simplify the configuration for performing a measurement and reduce the undue effort required for the measurement.A spectrum analyzer (10) includes: two sets of measuring units having mixers (110, 210), local oscillators (112, 212), and IF sections (120, 220) for separately measuring frequency characteristics of two input signals; a trigger control section (350) which generates a trigger signal for specifying a measurement start timing in each of the two sets of measuring units; a sweep control section (300) which simultaneously sends an instruction to the two local oscillators (112, 212) when a trigger signal is inputted and performs a sweep control so that the two local oscillators (112, 212) output local oscillation signals of the same frequency at the same timing.

    • A channel plan with a corresponding test plan are implemented in connection with a plurality of nodes that communicate signals. The channel plan has one or more predefined specifications for each of one or more signal channels on each of the nodes. The channel plan enables a monitoring system to, among other things, conduct automatic periodic test plans, comprising tests, on the nodes, based upon the predefined data specified in the channel plan. Each test plan prescribes measurement of at least one signal parameter, pertaining to one or more nodes as a whole and/or to one or more channels contained within the nodes. The monitoring system includes a spectrum analyzer, a switch enabling the spectrum analyzer to interface with the nodes, and a controller controlling the switch and the spectrum analyzer. The controller is configured to enable creation of and display the channel plan and test plan, based upon user inputs. Notably, the controller can be configured to compare results from tests with alarm limits, specified in the test plan, to control the spectrum analyzer to perform a failure time spectrum scan when one or more test results exceed one or more alarm limits, and to generate a plot of power amplitude versus frequency over the frequency spectrum of the node at issue.

    • A frequency divider includes a mixer having a first input connectable to a reference oscillator and a second input connectable from the reference oscillator through a frequency synthesizer to the second input of the mixer. The mixer provides an output signal to a filter, which provides a frequency divider output. The frequency synthesizer provides an output signal having a frequency of (N+1)/N or (N-1)/N times the input F.sub.IN from the reference oscillator. With the frequency synthesizer providing the signal F.sub.IN (N+1)/N, or F.sub.IN (N-1)/N, the output of the mixer provides the signal having the frequency F.sub.IN /N and can utilize a single filter to eliminate undesired mixer outputs. Further, the frequency synthesizer can be configured to utilize an oscillator which operates over the same frequency range as the reference oscillator.
