    • A hose coupling is provided primarily for irrigation applications and features a quick-connect capability ideal for use with the flexible irrigation systems such as are used on sugar cane plantations and elsewhere requiring relatively frequent assembly and dismantling of the system, the coupling being characterized by a tubular body portion having a nipple over which a flexible irrigation hose is pulled, there being a collar on the connector body which by virtue of a pair of helical ramps is forced over the end of the irrigation hose locking it onto the nipple when the collar is twisted. Being unrestrained other than by the helical ramp structure, the collar can be pulled axially to directly engage the irrigation hose, or twisted to utilize the mechanical advantage inherent in the helical ramps so that dual alternative operative modes are inherent in the design.

    • A pipe coupling has a body having a hollow interior including a tubular tail onto which the end of a pipe can be engaged. A coupling nut is captively mounted about the body of the coupling and has a screw threaded interior. When the end of a pipe has been pushed sufficiently onto the tubular tail, rotation of the coupling nut will threadedly engage the nut onto the exterior of the pipe end and draw the pipe further onto the tubular tail of the coupling. The tubular tail of the coupling may be formed as a separate replacable component from the balance of the body of the coupling such that the tail can be removed and substituted by a replacement tail of larger or smaller outside diameter to accomodate larger or smaller pipes.

    • A tubular coupling comprising a first component (1) having a tubular male spigot (2) with a headed formation (3) on the outside thereof and extending towards one of its ends and a second component (5) has a socket for receiving the headed formation on the tubular male spigot in releasable manner. The second component has a flow passage (6) communicating with the socket generally collinearly with the tubular male spigot in the installed position. A seat (7) is provided in the inner surface of the socket so that it encircles an opening (8) where it communicates with the socket and the tubular male spigot has a resilient seal (9) for sealing an adjacent end of the tubular male spigot to the flow passage. The headed formation and socket are shaped to provide guide surfaces enabling introduction of the headed formation into the socket with the axis of the tubular male spigot extending transverse, typically at right angles, to the axis of a flow passage in the second component. The guide surfaces cooperate such that rotation of the first and second components to bring their axes into substantial alignment causes a seat and seal arrangement to become operative and the headed formation to be held captive relative to the socket. An adapter is provided for integrating the coupling with industry standard fittings.
