    • The spacer is adapted for a rolling bearing comprising an inner ring, an outer ring and at least two rows of contact rollers disposed between raceways provided on the rings. The spacer comprises opposite inner and outer portions facing one another, a first lateral portion extending transversally between the inner and outer portions and connected to the portions, and a second lateral portion facing the first lateral portion and extending from the outer portion towards the inner portion. The inner and outer portions delimit together with the lateral portions a pocket configured to receive at least two superposed contact rollers. A free edge of the second lateral portion defines with the inner portion an aperture in order to open laterally the pocket on the side opposite to the first lateral portion.

    • The clearance between the outer peripheral surface of an annular portion of a cage and the inner peripheral surface of each of rib portions of outer-ring split pieces is set to be smaller than the clearance between the radial end surface of a projection portion of the cage and the inner peripheral surface of each of body portions of the outer-ring split pieces. When a centrifugal force due to engine rotation acts upon the cage, the inner peripheral surface of each of the rib portions of the outer-ring split pieces touches the outer peripheral surface of the annular portion of the cage before the inner peripheral surface of each of the body portions of the outer-ring split pieces touches the radial end surface of the projection portion of the cage. Thus, the radial displacement of the cage can be prevented in good time.

    • A bi-directional one-way clutch mechanism with a compliant cage member. The clutch mechanism has a plurality of roller members positioned between inner and outer race members. A compliant cage member is also positioned between the race members and acts to hold the roller members in place and also to reduce the magnitude of loads applied to the roller members when the clutch mechanism is engaged. The roller members are positioned in windows in the cage members and integral spring-like leaf segments are positioned in each of the windows on either side of the roller members. One or two spring-like members, together with one or more recesses between each of the windows and roller members provide resiliency for the cage mechanism. The compliant cage device reduces the magnitude of the loads applied to the clutch mechanism and prevent fatigue fracture and premature failure of the cage device. In an alternate embodiment, a one-piece injection molded compliant cage mechanism is utilized with separate metal spring members for biasing the roller members.
