摘要： A cover apparatus for directing a water current to rotate a waterwheel includes a shield comprising a first side panel, a second side panel, and a perimeter panel which define a cavity to receive the waterwheel. The cover apparatus is rotatably mountable to a shaft so that the cover apparatus rotates freely around the shaft to cover selected portions of the waterwheel. Typically, the shield covers one half of the waterwheel so that the water current only flows passed an uncovered half of the waterwheel to rotate the waterwheel. Fins are mounted to the perimeter panel to facilitate rotation of the shield around the waterwheel by the water current. An electricity generation system is described and claimed which uses the waterwheel and the cover apparatus.

摘要： A cover for turbines or pumps which is substantially less expensive than a cover having a cast construction. The cover is made of welded metal plates in a shape which generally corresponds to that of Kaplan type turbines, pumps or the like, and includes a number of thick walled rings and shells having a conical shape or envelope. The cover has a flat ring which is supported between the outer covering of the machine and a first, conical shell which surrounds the shaft of the machine and tapers narrower toward the runner of the machine. A second shell, also conical, defines a lesser conical angle than the first shell. It extends from the exterior of the first shell and axially toward the runner, surrounding the shaft, and is disposed for directing radially inward water flow axially toward the runner. At least one bearing is mounted between the flat ring and the shaft. The flat ring and the first and second shells are sheet metal and are welded together.
