    • A co-rotating twin-screw kneader has a casing which has two axially parallel bores, defined by the casing wall and which intersect with one another in a region to form gussets in said casing wall adjacent the intersecting region. Two axially parallel shafts which are arranged to be driven in the same direction of rotation are each arranged in a respective one of the bores and multi-flight kneading disks having crests associated with the casing wall are mounted in non-rotary manner on at least part of the length of each shaft. Each kneading disk on one shaft is associated with another disk on the other shaft in a plane perpendicular to the axes of the shafts and the disks are arranged to be moved past one another in a virtually clearance-free manner in the intersecting region of the bores.In order to achieve maximum flow rates and optimum melt homogeneity of material by using constructionally simple measures, the casing wall is dimensioned in such a way relative to the kneading disks, accompanied by the formation of a definite clearance between the casing wall and the crests on the kneading disk, but ##EQU1## in which Dg=diameter of the boresa=center-to-center distance of the boresn=number of flights on each kneading disk.

    • A method of producing an emulsion and an extrudate for a powdered nutritional product is provided. The method includes utilizing an extruder (10) that contains a high shear element (32) positioned within the barrel of the extruder (20). The use of a high shear element (32) positioned within the barrel of the extruder (20) allows both emulsification and extrusion of the ingredients to occur within the barrel of the extruder (20). A first portion of ingredients comprising a slurry is processed by the high shear element (32) to form an emulsion. The emulsion is then combined with a second portion of ingredients and extruded to form an extrudate for the desired powdered nutritional product. In some embodiments, the high shear element (32) may comprise a shearing disc or a pair of shearing discs. The extruder (10) may comprise a single screw extruder, a twin screw extruder, or any other suitable type of extruder.

    • A screening, crushing or mixing bucket is formed into a bucket of an excavating machine or bucket loader. The bucket comprises a bottom plate, side walls, and at the back of the bucket working drums rotatable about their shafts, which screen, crush or mix the material in the bucket as they rotate and at the same time deliver screened, crushed or mixed material out of the bucket, between or through the working drums. In the bucket are casings for the power transmission and bearings of the working drums. The casings are limited by frame plates to which the bearing housings of the drums are attachable. On the frame plate and/or on the inner side of the inner wall is fixed a mudguard, which extends between the shafts of the working drums, next to the lead-throughs of the shafts, and the mudguard comprises cut-outs for receiving the shafts of the working drums.

    • There is provided a multi-shaft kneading disc, kneading disc block, and a multi-shaft extruder containing the same. The kneading disc and each kneading disc in the kneading disc block having a disc shape with a central section defining an extruder shaft mounting bore and at least one lobe extending radially from said central section and having a crest end. The at least one lobe has a radius X which defines an outer diameter of the kneading disc. The central section has a radius Y which defines an inner diameter of the kneading disc. At least one other lobe extends radially from the central section and has a radius Z. The radius Z defines the outer diameter of at least one other lobe.
