    • This invention is related to an image reading apparatus for use in a digital copy machine and a facsimile machine. The invention is made possible to obtain the simple flat average value of the white reference data used for a shading correction obtained with a photoelectric conversion elements arranged in a line by sensing the reflected light upon a white reference plate. The image reading apparatus comprises an n-bit memory for the white reference data and another n-bit memory for the black reference data and a reference data processing circuit for summing white reference data after 2.sup.m times of line readings on the white reference plate. The summation of the data is carried out with the use of an n+m bit memory region, consisting of an upper n bit section and a lower m bit section, that is made up with the n-bits of the n-bit memory of the white reference data and m-bits of the n-bit memory of the black reference data. Then after summation of 2.sup.m data is completed, the data stored in the upper n-bit region of the (n+m) bit memory region coincides with 1/2.sup.m .times.(summation of the 2.sup.m white reference data), that is in fact a simple average value of the summed up data.

    • This invention relates to an image forming apparatus with a transfer unit for transferring toner electrically to an electrostatic latent image formed on a photoreceptor onto a copy sheet. The image forming apparatus has a transfer electrode charge supply means for supplying electric charges to a transfer electrode provided in the transfer unit to electrically attract the toner onto the copy sheet and control means for controlling the quantity of electric charges to be supplied to the photoreceptor via the transfer electrode from the transfer electrode charge supply means based on a photoreceptor inflow current flowing to the photoreceptor through the charge send/receive means and on a photoreceptor outflow current flowing out from the photoreceptor through a ground wire connecting the photoreceptor and the ground. The charge send/receive means, other than the transfer unit, sends and receives electric charges to and from the photoreceptor. With this arrangement, variation of photoreceptor inflow current due to image density variation of an original document can be controlled to perform a stable image transfer.

    • An image forming machine having a transfer roller comprises a rotatably disposed photoconductor drum, a transfer roller disposed opposite the photoconductor drum with a predetermined gap provided therebetween, a register roller pair for feeding a transfer sheet toward a transfer area where the photoconductor drum and the transfer roller are opposed to each other, transfer sheet guide means disposed between the register roller pair and the transfer area, and a fixing roller pair for fixing a toner image transferred to the transfer sheet passing through the transfer area. The transfer sheet guide means comprises an inner guide plate and an outer guide plate, and the inner guide plate has a linear guide portion extending toward a predetermined position on the peripheral surface of the photoconductor drum. The predetermined position is set in an angular range (.theta.) covering 12.degree. to 23.degree. upstream, in the direction of rotation of the photoconductor drum, from a line connecting the center of rotation of the photoconductor drum to the center of rotation of the transfer roller, while the linear guide portion of the inner guide plate forms an angle (.alpha.) with a tangent to the photoconductor drum at the predetermined position, the angle (.alpha.) being set at 19.degree. to 30.degree..

    • An image-forming machine comprises a movable mounting plate disposed in said machine housing in a manner to be moved toward, and away from, a photosensitive material drum, and a push-operation mechanism for moving the developing device mounted on the movable mounting plate between a push position close to said photosensitive material drum and a push-release position.
