    • A cable handler link (10) includes a body portion (12) having a first wall and two opposed side arms integral with and extending generally perpendicular to the first wall defining a first channel for receiving one or more service lines. The side arms define free ends, arc capable of being deflected and each defines a first engaging formation in the form of a rebate (60). A closure means (14) includes an end wall (14) from which extend two relatively shorter side arms (16, 17) defining complementary engaging formations including a tenon (62) for interlocking the closure means to the side arms of the body portion (12). The side arms deflect towards each other to disengage the closure means from the body portion (12). The rebate (60) and tenon (62) are preferably slightly inwardly tapered and prevent relative transverse movement of the components, which is also the direction in which the link is towed, in use.

    • A cable release apparatus includes a housing and latch mounted at one end of the housing. The latch has a central opening and a plurality of projecting members extending into the housing. A releasable connector is mounted inside the housing. An actuator has one end disposed in the central opening in the latch and another end in contact with the releasable connector. The actuator is movable between a first position prior to activation of the releaseable connector and a second position wherein the releasable connector is activated. Prior to activation of the releasable connector, the latch is held in place by an interference fit between the projecting members and the housing. When the releasable connector is activated, the projecting members are deflected by applying tension to the latch, thereby releasing the latch from the housing.

    • In a telecommunications system including a plurality of different networks, terminals and smart cards, each terminal is usable in a particular network in association with one of the smart cards when that smart card is registered with that network. Each smart card carries secret information specific to its registered home network and with which the network can authenticate the smart card and allow use of the terminal with which that smart card is associated. Each smart card may be registered with one of the networks as its home network, selectively de-registered from its home network, and re-registered with a different one of the networks as its home network by obtaining data including an International Mobile Subscriber Identifier for use with that network. The Identifier is transmitted to the smart card, and the secret information relating to a particular network activated when registering or re-registering the smart card with that network.

The invented device is designed to safeguard haemodialysis patients from serious losses of blood through venous line disconnection or venous needle dislodgement. The invented device is designed to clamp the venous line automatically before venous needle dislodgement or venous line disconnection becomes a serious problem and to make the haemodialysis machine stop drawing blood from the patient This will cause the haemodialysis machine to alarm in the normal way so as to alert the patient or healthcare worker to the problem. The invented device will have to be manually reset before therapy can continue.

    • Various advantageous arrangements for use with the proposed SAE/LTE or 4G mobile telecommunications system are disclosed. An arrangement for allowing a mobile terminal/UE (1) to transmit data packets to duplicate access points (5) is disclosed. An IP combiner (20) receives the duplicate data packets from the respective access points (5), together with quality indicators, and determines which data packet should be passed onwardly to the network. An arrangement is also disclosed which allows a particular MME (7) (corresponding to the 3G SGSN) to be selected for a particular access point (5). A particular MME may be selected depending on various criteria, such as to distribute the load evenly between the MMEs (7) of the network or to take a particular MME (7) out of service temporarily in a managed manner. Further, an arrangement is disclosed which enables the more rapid establishment of the user plane bearer between the mobile terminal/UE (1) and the network. In the arrangement the control plane is subsequently established through the already established user plane. This may reduce the start-up delay significantly. Additionally, various security features are disclosed. For example, an access point (5) is disclosed which has incorporated therein or associated therewith a smart card (15A), which is analogous to a SIM or USIM used with a 2G, 2.5G or 3G network. This allows the access point (5) to be authenticated with a security store (30) of the network in a similar manner to which a SIM or USIM of a mobile terminal/UE is authenticated with the network in a 2G, 2.5G or 3G mobile telecommunications network. A split ciphering architecture is also discussed where three separate cipher links are provided: a ciphered Non-Access Stratum control plane, a ciphered Access Stratum control plane and a ciphered user plane.
