    • An electric connector including a housing (14) and a rear holder (13). The rear holder (13) retains connecting terminals (12) therein and is fitted into the housing (14) from the rear of the housing. The rear holder (13) includes a front retaining portion (36a, 36b) for restricting forward movement of the connecting terminals (12), and a rear retaining portion (37) for restricting backward movement of the connecting terminals (12). The housing (14) has an inclined guide surface (34b, 43c) for receiving and guiding a respective connecting terminal (12) at an inclined angle into the housing. The structure of the housing (14) and rear holder (13) is adapted so that the connecting terminals (12) are retained within a terminal connecting portion (21) in a provisionally engaged position by inserting a connecting terminal (12) into the housing (14) at an inclined by abutting the inclined guide surface (34b, 43c) and then moving the connecting terminals (12) into a fixed completely engaged horizontal position by pushing the rear holder (13).

    • In an electrical connector assembly, housings are locked with each other by locking a rear holder provided in a first connector with a cooperating second connector. In a rear holder main body 52 of a rear holder 51 there are formed a plurality of resilient clamping lances 53 which clamp connection terminals 67 inserted into respective terminal receiving holes 62 formed in a housing main body 61. At a middle upper portion of the rear holder 51 there is provided a resilient locking arm 54, and a locking claw 55 is formed on the locking arm. When the housing main body 61 is inserted into a housing main body 71 of a cooperating connector, connection terminals 67 and 72 are coupled with each other. The locking claw 55 provided on the locking arm 54 of the rear holder 51 is engaged with a locking portion 73 of the housing main body 71 of the cooperating second connector.

    • A rear holder 4 is inserted into a housing 3 from a rear end surface 24 at a provisional locking position in which the rear holder 4 is inserted into the housing 3 halfway and an insertion of connecting terminals is allowed, as well as at a sufficiently inserted complete locking position at which the inserted connecting terminals are locked. Within the housing 3, there are formed two rows of terminal accommodating holes 28 each accommodating respective connecting terminals. The rear holder 4 is formed in a substantially plate-like shape and includes a main body 41 which is inserted into slits 29 of the housing 3 and locking arms 45 which are inserted into respective terminal accommodating holes 28. A width of a locking arm 45 is slightly smaller than that of a terminal accommodating hole 28. Windows 37 are formed in the outer wall 21 of the housing 3 such that the terminal accommodating holes 28 are communicated with external through the windows 37. Through these windows 37, locking condition between the connecting terminals 2 and the locking arms 45 can be released and an electrical conduction test of the connecting terminals 2 can be performed.

When a connecting terminal to which an electric wire and a waterproof sealing member are attached is inserted into a terminal accommodating hole from an terminal insertion opening, a step of the waterproof sealing member abuts against a step of the terminal insertion opening and also a taper surface meets a taper surface, preventing water from entering the terminal accommodating hole from the backside. In this state, the waterproof sealing member is pressed toward a connector housing by a rear holder to prevent the waterproof sealing member from falling out of position. Thus, because the terminal insertion opening is sealed, with a part of the waterproof sealing member placed outside the connector housing, the lateral width and vertical width of the terminal accommodating hole can be set to the magnitudes that substantially allow the connecting terminal to pass through the hole.

    • An electric connector capable of fixing a small connection terminal by a large locking force.
