    • A marker for forming identifying indicia on X-ray film is comprised of two overlapping layers of material which define a predetermined shape, with a first layer of material having first predetermined X-ray absorbing characteristics, and-a second layer of material having second X-ray absorbing characteristics complementary to the X-ray absorbing characteristics of the first material, such that the combination of the two layers block a sufficient portion of the X-rays imparted to the X-ray film to form an identifying indicia on the X-ray film having good contrast. The combination of the two layers of material block a substantially greater portion of the X-rays than that blocked by either of the two materials alone. A plurality of indicia-defining layers of material are encapsulated within a clear encapsulating material having magnetic engaging means, whereby a single marker having a plurality of identifying indicia may be easily picked up and engaged with the platen containing the X-ray film.

    • Torque wrench testing apparatus and method that includes holding a torque wrench, applying a predetermined torque load to one end of the wrench while limiting movement of the other end of the wrench, and measuring the actual torque applied, for comparison with the reading on the wrench gauge. The essential feature of the invention resides in the idea of limiting the movement of the other wrench end by a pylon that is pivotally mounted so that when it engages a pivotally mounted wrench handle, the handle will stay coaxial to the one end of the wrench to avoid a handle end from contacting the wrench beam, which would cause a change in the working length of the wrench beam and result in an incorrect calculation of torque.

    • A wheelchair is provided with an endless track drive for travel over rough ground. The endless track drive is detachably connected to the wheelchair by a frame such that a lower run of each of the endless tracks is located adjacent a lower periphery of each wheel. The chair in the wheelchair is kept low so that the occupant is not lifted so high as to experience a substantially different elevation when travelling on the endless track as when traveling on the wheels. A suspension preferably in the form of a flexible sheet allows one forward end of an endless track to be moved vertically independently of the forward end of the other endless tracks. Preferably, the endless drive is an attachment that is easily clamped to the wheelchair and is made mostly of plastic that is lightweight and easily cleaned and provides a low cost for the attachment.

    • Validation of the identity of the user is performed with the use of a card associated with intelligence that identifies the user. Validation of the document involves one or more of: validating the presence of a signature; validating the amount of the monetary transaction document including a manual entry of the amount by the user; validating CAR against the LAR; and validating the banking system parameters and rules for the customer and/or the transaction. To assist in the automatic analysis of data on monetary transactional documents or on remittance documents, the user is prompted to provide a bounding box about the data. An image touch screen may be touched by the user to locate the bounding box and the user may magnify the data to fill the boundary box to exclude other data from analysis. After document and person validation, the system will dispense money or transfer monies to a savings account, a checking account, a smart card, or the like. The system will also write money orders or wire transfer money.

    • A method and apparatus are provided for conducting transactions through a financial network using a document such as a check or money order at an unattended automated machine. For security purposes a signature detector detects the signature and the user uses a card to operate the machine. A reader reads the amount on the document; and, for a check, the LAR and CAR amounts are compared. If the document is a money order, the user may be prompted to endorse the money order if the signature detector fails to detect a signature. A card writer writes an amount on the card related to the amount of the transaction being done and a calculator calculates the amount to be written on the card and subtracts a user's service charge. A bill may be paid and a receipt generator will provide a receipt preferably showing payment of the bill and the service charge. If the check or money order is for an amount greater than the bill and service charge amounts, the card writer may write the difference on the card. A portion of the check or money order may also be deposited in the user's account. A cash acceptor in the machine accepts cash and a cash dispenser may dispense cash.

    • An apparatus and method for radiographic image includes a plurality of light emitting diodes two of which produce light in the optical or visible wavelengths, another one of which produces light in an infrared wavelength so that pumping light can be supplied to a variety of radiographic substrate media. The pumping light is supplied to the medium by a plurality of optical fibers arranged in a linear array as the medium is scanned beneath the fibers. A second plurality of linear optical fibers picks up phosphorescent emissions from the radiographic medium due to the pumping light excitation and supplies the emissions to a photodiode or other optical receiver where the light intensity is translated into an electrical signal. The signal is sent to a processor which generates an image signal. The image signal may then be converted into an image representative of the latent x-ray image on the radiographic medium.
