    • A running vehicle comprises a steering operation tool, a pair of running-driving axles, a pair of running wheels drivingly connected with the pair of running-driving axles, a first differential unit interposed between the pair of running-driving axles, a first hydrostatic transmission for transmitting a driving force to the first differential unit, a pair of steering output shafts, a second differential unit interposed between the pair of steering output shafts, a second hydrostatic transmission for transmitting a driving force to the second differential unit. The second hydrostatic transmission drivingly interlocks with the steering operation tool so that the output speed and direction of the second hydraulic transmission is changed by manipulation of the steering operation tool. A first drive train is interposed between one of the steering output shafts and one of the running-driving axles, and a second drive train is interposed between the other steering output shaft and the other running-driving axle for transmitting the rotating effort to the other running-driving axle in the opposite direction to the first drive train. To improve the running efficiency on a rough road or soft ground, a pair of running-driven axles are disposed either in front of or in rear of the pair of running-driving axles, another pair of running wheels are drivingly connected with the pair of running-driven axles, and each of a pair of power transmission mechanisms is interposed between one of the running-driving axles and one of the running-driven axles arranged on each side of the vehicle, so as to rotate the pair of running-driven axles in the same rotational direction of the running driving axles. Otherwise, to reduce the turning radius, a pair of first steerable running wheels steered by manipulation of the steering operation tool are drivingly connected with the pair of running-driving axles. A pair of second steerable running wheels steered by manipulation of the steering operation tool, or castor wheels are disposed either in front of or in rear of the pair of first steerable running wheels.

    • A transaxle apparatus is constructed so that left and right axles, two hydrostatic transmissions (HSTs), one for driving a vehicle and the other for steering it, and a differential unit for differentially connecting said axles with each other are together contained in a housing. The driving HST is disposed so that its hydraulic pump and motor are aligned along either a left or right side of the housing. The steering HST is disposed so that its hydraulic pump and motor are aligned along either a front or rear side of the housing. The differential unit is laterally opposite to the driving HST. Either the left or right axle crosses the driving HST between its hydraulic pump and motor. The two HSTs are provided with one or two flat center sections disposed in the housing. The cylinder blocks of the hydraulic pumps and motors of the two HSTs are mounted on either a top or bottom surface of the center section or sections. Power transmission mechanisms for transmitting output power from the hydraulic motors of the two HSTs into the differential unit are disposed on an opposite side of the center section(s) as the cylinder blocks. A charge pump may be attached onto the center section, and a conduit for sending fluid discharged from the charged pump into one or both HSTs may be partly extended outside the housing so as to be cooled by the atmosphere.

    • A vehicle comprises a vehicle frame, a prime mover mounted on the vehicle frame, a laterally turnable wheel disposed at one side of the vehicle frame, a pair of drive wheels disposed at the other side of the vehicle frame, a steering operation device, a traveling operation device for setting the traveling speed and direction of the vehicle, and a pair of transmissions for controlling the rotary speed and direction of the respective drive wheels. The transmissions are operationally connected with the steering operation device so as to create a difference of rotary speed between the drive wheels according to operation of the steering operation device. The transmissions are operationally connected with the traveling operation device so as to drive the drive wheels in a common rotary direction from their stationary state according to operation of the traveling operation device. A clutch is interposed between the transmissions so as to connect the drive wheels with each other when the steering operation device is set in a straight traveling position. Based on setting of a switching device for switching the traveling direction of the vehicle between forward and rearward, a reverser decides the rotational direction of the drive wheels.

    • An integrated hydraulic transaxle (IHT) comprises a hydrostatic transmission (HST), an axle driven by the HST, and a housing incorporating the HST and the axle. The HST includes a variable displacement hydraulic pump driven by a prime mover, and a hydraulic motor fluidly connected to the hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump has a trunnion type movable swash plate. The internal displacement of the hydraulic motor is larger than the internal displacement of the hydraulic pump so as to increase the hydraulic deceleration activity of the HST. In the IHT, a mechanical deceleration drive train is interposed between the hydraulic motor and the axle. The mechanical deceleration activity of the mechanical deceleration drive train is reduced so far as the increase of the hydraulic deceleration activity of the HST.
