    • A new approach to aggregating a plurality of information exchange requirements (IERs) into a common schema is disclosed. A device has a digital storage medium that includes a data structure for implementing a plurality of information exchange requirements each having a plurality of attributes. The data structure includes a data portion configured for storing digital data, and an attribute portion distinct from the data portion comprising a plurality of attribute fields, wherein each of the plurality of attribute fields describes an aspect of the digital data corresponding to one of the plurality of attributes associated with at least one of the plurality of information exchange requirements, to thereby implement the common schema.

    • Systems and methods measure the effectiveness of network-centric environments. A network-centric environment is described by a computerized model that includes a plurality of parameters describing the various sensors and effectors available within the scenario. As the model is executed, numerical representations of the level of interoperability (e.g. a speed of command parameter, a situational awareness parameter, an asset utilization parameter and/or the like) are computed. A measure of effectiveness is then determined for the scenario as a function of the numerical representations. The measure of effectiveness can then be reported to a user, administrator or other use, who may use the data to compare and contrast different resources or scenarios, to design improved network centric environments, and/or for other purposes.

    • A fast initial acquisition and search device for a spread spectrum communication system is disclosed herein. The search device includes a memory for storing the first code sequence, and a plurality of computation circuits coupled in parallel to the memory. The search device also includes a plurality of threshold detector circuits. Each of the plurality of threshold detector circuits is respectively coupled to one of the plurality of computation circuits. Each of the plurality of computation circuits implements a unique phase offset for a second code sequence with respect to the first code sequence. A correlation operation is performed in parallel at each of the plurality of computation circuits followed by a threshold evaluation that indicates whether the correlation result satisfied a threshold value.

    • An embodiment of the invention described in the specification and drawings is an apparatus and method of generating a phase-shifted maximum length pseudo-random noise (PN) sequence without resorting to complicated counters and clocking schemes. The apparatus includes a linear feedback shift register (LFSR) that has N stages and the ability to generate a first PN sequence at an output of its last stage. The LFSR is coupled to a first mask circuit and a second mask circuit for generating a second PN sequence and a third PN sequence. The apparatus further includes logic for selectively outputting bits from the second and third PN sequences to form a fourth PN sequence, which has a phase shift relative to the first PN sequence.

    • A new approach to adaptive wireless communications suitable for use in military environments and for other purposes is provided. One technique for reliably communicating between a first node and a second node includes the broad steps of establishing a wireless connection between the first node and the second node at a level of communication, monitoring a quality of the wireless connection, adjusting the level of communication if the quality of the wireless connection crosses a threshold, and repeating the monitoring and adjusting steps throughout the duration of the wireless communication cooperatively using the in-band or out-of-band signaling schemes and negotiating the appropriate level of communication link avoiding excessive link outages and signaling overheads. By communicating at a level appropriate for the quality of signals received and adjusting the level as the quality changes, the overall reliability of the wireless communication is improved.
