    • A hollow hole is radially formed in a rotor in at least one position on its circumference so that the minimum thickness between an inner surface of the hollow hole and each of the front and rear braking surfaces is selected to be not larger than 3 mm. Two rows of small circular holes may be formed in a specific arrangement so as to penetrate a disc rotor. If longitudinal wave vibration is transmitted to the disc rotor, squeals due to an even number order resonance mode, that is, a resonance mode of the second, fourth, sixth order or the like, can be effectively attenuated by specially shaped hollow holes, reduced holes, or two rows of small circular holes formed in a disc rotor.

    • A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus having a magnetic disk, a magnetic head and a magnetic head supporting device. The surface roughness R.sub.max of the magnetic disk is at most 10 nm, and the magnetic head has a slider on which reading and writing elements are mounted. The slider is of a generally rectangular prism shape with the entire area of a medium opposing surface which opposes the magnetic disk being flat. The surface area of the medium opposing surface is 2 mm.sup.2 or less. The apparatus has a first relative speed at which the frictional coefficient between the magnetic disk and the magnetic head is changed from a high value to a low value when the speed increases, and a second relative speed at which the frictional coefficient is changed from a low value to a high value when the speed decreases. A ridge portion between the front surface and the medium opposing surface has a round corner, wherein the length of the round corner in the direction of the medium opposing surface is larger than the length of the round corner in the direction of the front surface.

    • A flying magnetic head designed for use in a magnetic disk apparatus and equipped with a reading/writing element attached to an air discharge end of a slider having a flying plane on its one surface opposed to a magnetic recording medium. The slider is so formed as to have specified outer dimensions including a thickness of 0.65 mm or less from the flying plane to the opposite surface on the reverse side, a length of 1 to 3 mm in the direction of air discharge, and a width of 1 to 2.5 mm in the direction orthogonal to the air discharge. Accordingly, even with a small flying height under 0.1 .mu.m, high stability is attained in the flying characteristic with sufficient durability, and a compact structure is achievable at low production cost.
