摘要： An imprinting apparatus having application means for applying thermal energy to a recording portion of thermoplastic magnetic ink and generation means for simultaneously generating magnetic attraction force in the ink is provided. The recording portion of the ink is transferred to a transfer medium by the magnetic attraction force while the application of thermal energy is controlled. The ink and the transfer medium do not come into contact with each other in a non-recording portion of the ink. An ink medium having a support layer and a thermoplastic magnetic ink layer for use with the imprinting apparatus of the invention is also provided.

摘要： On ink jet recorded matter comprising an ink jet recording medium having a substrate and an ink receiving layer formed thereon containing porous inorganic particles and an image formed with a pigment ink on the ink receiving layer, a protective layer covering the image is formed by thermally transferring a transfer layer from a heat-resistant carrier onto the image. The ink jet recording medium comprises a substrate and an ink receiving layer formed on one side of the substrate, wherein an ink jet recorded image and a protective layer covering the image are to be formed on the surface of the ink receiving layer, said side of the substrate, before the formation of the ink receiving layer, having a Bekk's surface smoothness of 200 seconds or higher and the surface of the ink receiving layer having a Bekk's surface smoothness of 60 seconds or higher. Also disclosed is an ink jet recording medium having no ink receiving layer, which comprises a substrate treated with a solution of a metal salt and in which the front and back sides of the substrate each have a Bekk's surface smoothness of 200 seconds or higher.

摘要： A thermal transfer magnetic ink, ink sheet and method of printing with the magnetic ink and apparatus which will print high quality images and characters. The heat-fusible magnetic ink transfer sheet includes a heat-fusible magnetic ink layer disposed on a heat resistant support film. The magnetic ink layer includes minute magnetic particles dispersed in a binder and has a surface tension lower than about 20 dynes/cm when melted. The magnetic properties of the ink combined with the melted ink's surface tension, permit avoiding contact between the ink transfer sheet and the recording medium. A magnetic field pulls the ink melted by a print head off of the support film so that the melted ink flies from the ink transfer sheet to the recording medium.

摘要： In an electrothermal transfer system which uses a sheet formed by integrally binding at least a resistive layer and an ink layer and effects desired transfer by flowing electric current through the resistive layer thereby causing the resistive layer to generate joulean heat and enabling the ink layer to be partially fused to be transferred, an electrothermal transfer recording sheet has the resistive layer formed by application of a mixture of carbon black with a resin binder. The carbon black used herein is possessed of a DBP oil absorption capacity of not less than 300 ml/100 g. Thus, the carbon black content in the resistive layer can be as small as 5 to 35% by weight, the tight adhesiveness of the resistive layer improved, and the power consumption lowered.

摘要： Ester compounds suitable for use in liquid crystal compositions are provided. The ester compounds are (2'-cyano-4'-alkylphenyl)-3-cyano-4-n-alkoxybenzoates represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R' each is a straight-chain alkyl group having one to eight carbon atoms. The ester compounds alone do not exhibit a liquid crystal phase, but have a relatively low melting point. Addition of at least one such ester compound to a liquid crystal composition lowers the value of the dielectric anisotropy of the composition at frequencies higher than the critical frequency, and lowers it at frequencies lower than the critical frequency. Such compositions are particularly well suited for the two-frequency matrix-addressing drive in a display of complex characters or graphic displays.The ester compounds in accordance with the invention are prepared by condensing a 3-bromo-4-n-alkoxybenzoyl chloride having the general formula: ##STR2## and a 2-cyano-4-n-alkylphenol having the general formula: ##STR3## to prepare a (2'-cyano-4'-n-alkylphenol)-3-bromo-4-n-alkoxybenzoate having the general formula: ##STR4## wherein R and R' each is a straight-chain alkyl group having from one to eight carbon atoms, and reacting the benzoate (IV) with cuprous cyanide to yield the desired ester (I).
