    • In an antenna structure 1 in which a feed radiation electrode provided on a dielectric base member performs an antenna operation in a fundamental mode and an antenna operation in a higher-order mode with a resonant frequency higher than that in the fundamental mode, one end of the feed radiation electrode defines a feed end connected to a circuit for radio communication, and the other end of the feed radiation electrode defines an open end. The position of a capacitance-loading portion α is set in advance between the feed end and the open end of the feed radiation electrode. A capacitance-loading conductor is connected to one or both of the feed end and the capacitance-loading portion α of the feed radiation electrode. The capacitance-loading conductor forms a capacitance for adjusting a resonant frequency in the fundamental mode between the feed end and the capacitance-loading portion α.

    • An antenna includes a radiation electrode, with one end thereof being connected to a conductive portion located on a front or back surface of a board. The radiation electrode extends outward from the conductive portion starting from the connected end, is bent around an edge of the board, and extends to a side opposite to the side of the starting point with a space therebetween. The other end of the radiation electrode is not connected to the conductive portion so as to function as an open end. Since the radiation electrode extends from one side to the other side of the board, the electric length of the radiation electrode can be increased. Accordingly, the size and thickness of the radiation electrode can be reduced while keeping a set resonance frequency. Also, since a space defined by the board and the radiation electrode can be increased, the gain is greatly improved and the bandwidth is significantly broadened.

    • An antenna structure including a dielectric base member provided in a non-ground region of a circuit board and a feed radiation electrode provided on the dielectric base member. An outer side surface of the dielectric base member along an edge of one end of the circuit board defines a side surface. A feed electrode is provided in the non-ground region of the circuit board or outside the circuit board such that the feed electrode is disposed along side surfaces of the dielectric base member. One end of the feed radiation electrode defines a feed end connected to the feed electrode, and the other end of the feed radiation electrode defines an open end. The feed radiation electrode has a configuration in which a current path extending from the feed end to the open end has a loop shape so as to be provided on at least the side surface and an upper surface of the dielectric base member.     • In a feeding radiation electrode of a surface mount antenna, a series inductance component such as a meander pattern is formed locally in a maximum resonance current part in a high-order mode (second-order mode) so as to locally form a series inductance component therein thereby making the maximum resonance current part have a greater electrical length per unit physical length than the other parts. This makes it possible to control the difference between the resonance frequency in a fundamental mode and the resonance frequency in the high-order mode over a large range. Furthermore, it is possible to vary the resonance frequency in the second-order mode independently of the resonance frequency in the fundamental mode by varying the number of lines or the line-to-line distance of the meander pattern thereby varying the value of the series inductance component. Thus, it is possible to easily and efficiently design a surface mount antenna having a frequency characteristic which satisfies requirements needed in multi-band applications without having to change the basic design.
