摘要： Packages for moisture containing products, such as cheese, including a polyamide layer, an ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) layer, a sealant layer, and a moisture barrier layer located between the sealant layer and the polyamide and EVOH layers. The moisture barrier layer may contain a blend of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE). The package film has a thickness of less than 3.5 mils and a moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) at 100° F. and 90% relative humidity of less than 0.59 g/100 in2 per 24 hours. The moisture barrier layer minimizes the absorption of moisture by the polyamide layer, and thus prevents the package from forming a mottled appearance.

The polyamide is present in the blend in an amount of from 15-40%, and most preferably from 25-30%. The inner barrier layer is laminated on each side with a layer of a polyamide. The preferred polyamide is nylon, and particularly nylon 6. In a preferred embodiment, the film structure is layered with an oxide or ceramic layer. Included is a method of manufacturing the film and for using the film structure to package a product in a retort packaging process.

摘要： Multiple layer films and containers. The films have a first layer of either nylon 6,6 or a combination of nylon 6,6 with nylon 6 wherein the melting point temperature of the combination is greater than the melting point temperature of the corresponding nylon 6. A second layer is comprised of linear low density polyethylene, and 0% to 40% low density polyethylene. A third adhesive layer is disposed between the first and second layers. The containers are susceptible of being sealed with included gas at low pressure, and subsequently boiled in water without rupture of the seals. The film is preferably coextruded from tubular die, thereby setting forth a new method for forming a mulitple layer film comprising a combination of linear low density polyethylene, optionally with up to 40% low density polyethylene, and nylon 6,6, optionally combined with nylon 6 in a composition having a melting point temperature greater than that of the corresponding nylon 6.

The film in its various embodiments include two inner layers of nylon and/or a core layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol or ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer sandwiched between the two inner nylon layers. The film also has an outer layer of a heat sealable polymer and may also have an outer layer of nylon. The film is coextruded, blown into a tubular shape, oriented, and cooled by the method of tubular water quenching. The film has various improved physical properties over the prior art, including properties of “memory”, clarity, gloss and low haze.

摘要： Apparatus and method for fabricating films, especially films containing vinylidene chloride copolymer, wherein the process is susceptible of continued operation over an extended period of time greater than a few days. The process typically can operate for at least 2 weeks between shut downs for cleaning the die. The apparatus comprises a coextrusion feedblock 20 in combination with an annular extrusion die 10 having a crosshead mandrel 11, and means for conveying the exit stream 24 from the feedblock to the die. The particular apparatus combination especially reduces the rate of carbon buildup in the extrusion apparatus during extrusion of VDC-copolymer, such that the extrusion process can be operated for a longer time between shutdowns for cleaning and maintenance of the die. The invention further includes novel tubular films 32 made with the apparatus and methods of the invention, and packages made from the films. In general, the method of the invention produces tubular films having more layers than the annular extrusion die has annular orifices.

摘要： The present invention relates to a film structure and a method of manufacturing the same. More specifically, the film structure may include a barrier material made from EVOH, nylon or other thermally sensitive barrier material encapsulated by a first adhesive material. The barrier material and the first adhesive material form a barrier layer and a first set of adhesive layers when coextruded. The barrier layer and the first set of adhesive layers may be coextruded at the same or a similar temperature to form a first extrudate. The extrudate may be encapsulated by or otherwise coextruded with a second adhesive material to form a second extrudate at a higher temperature than the first extrudate that then may be formed into a flat sheet via a die. The first set of adhesive layers protects the barrier layer from high temperatures and long residence times related to the coextrusion/lamination process that may degrade the barrier layer. In addition, acid terpolymer consisting of ethylene/methyl acrylate/acrylic acid adheres a barrier material of EVOH to outer layers of the film structure.
