摘要： A smart external antenna module is proposed for wireless systems. The module allows the advantages of smart antennas to be easily added to existing wireless systems without any modification to the transceiver. Specifically, the smart antenna module weights and combines the signals received by multiple antennas to improve the received signal quality, and then when it detects that there is a signal to be transmitted by the transceiver, it turns off the receiver, turns on the transmitter and uses the receive weights to transmit the signal out of the multiple antennas to improve signal reception at the desired user. Such a module can be added to the external antenna port of an existing transceiver with no change to that transceiver.

The satellite antenna of the present invention can be installed on top of (or embedded into) the roof of a vehicle. The present invention provides a vehicle mounted satellite antenna which has low axial ratio, high efficiency and has low grating lobes gain. The vehicle mounted satellite antenna of the present invention provides two simultaneous polarization states.

摘要： A low profile, vehicle mounted, in-motion tracking, satellite antenna includes a pair of antenna assemblies mounted in parallel on a rotatable platform. Each antenna assembly includes two subreflectors with a plastic matching element. The outputs of the two antenna assemblies are coupled with a single phase shifter. The combined outputs are retransmitted to a receiver inside the vehicle. The satellite antenna also includes a receiver for receiving channel selection data and/or for providing two-way communication with equipment inside the vehicle. The antennae, transmitter and receiver are self-powered by a storage device which is charged by a wind driven generator. A retractable radome lowers to a lower profile when the antenna is not in use.

The size of the phased-array antenna both in physical dimension and in number of array elements determines the number of hierarchical delay levels. A method for squint compensation distributes control signal values for phase shift, gain, and time delay for each block. Embodiments of digital squint compensation include phase shift indexers, a plurality of switches coupled to ground taps of a floating strip to adjust the characteristic impedance of a transmission line for fine adjustment; and a hierarchy of tunable squint compensation structures including die-level squint compensation structures coupled to each of the radio frequency chains; and panel-level true time-delay phase shift structures coupled to each of the die-level squint compensation structures. The article of manufacture enables aggregation of sub-arrays which are fabricated to avoid beam squint.

Although the AWV can be calculated mathematically based on the required phase shift values of each antenna element for a beam direction to compensate for signal delay. However, in practice, due to hardware implementation imperfection, coupling in signal path for each antenna element within hardware, inaccuracies of implementations, physical misalignment, the mathematically generated AWV does not necessarily provide alignment between transmit beam and receive beam. This subset is sufficient is all practical operation. The subset of AWVs are typically called codebook and the receiver beam points to different direction by using a AWV within the codebook.

摘要： A method to improve the area throughput of dense wireless local area networks (WLAN) by channel access control is proposed. The method allows an access point to obtain information of a plurality of stations within the wireless network. The access point classifies the plurality of stations into at least one group of stations and assigns a group identification (ID) according to the obtained information. The group ID and channel access control parameters are sent to the stations that are classified into the certain group. The stations in each of the group use the received channel access control parameters to communicate with the access point.

摘要： A scheduling-based downlink MU-MIMO mechanism is proposed in a wireless communication system. An access point transmits a first scheduling message to a plurality of stations. The first scheduling message reserves a first transmission burst for channel sounding. The AP then transmits a sounding signal and in response receives channel state information (CSI) from the plurality of stations. Based on the CSI, the AP performs MU-MIMO encoding and applies transmit beamforming (precoding). The AP transmits a second scheduling message that reserves a second transmission burst for MU-MIMO transmission. The AP then transmits downlink data streams to multiple stations simultaneously. Finally, the AP receives uplink acknowledgements from the stations. In one embodiment, the scheduling-based MU-MIMO is implemented using PSMP scheduling technique. PSMP-based downlink MU-MIMO allows both 802.11n and 802.11ac stations to process multiple spatial streams with reduced complexity, enhanced performance, and significant power saving.

摘要： A method of sounding and feedback with channel quality information and reduced overhead is provided. A receiving station receives a sounding signal transmitted from an access point over multiple sub-channels of a wide channel in a wireless network. The receiving station detects channel quality based on the received sounding signal for each sub-channel. The receiving station then performs channel estimation based on the received sounding signal and thereby determining feedback information. Finally, the receiving station transmits a feedback message to the access point, the feedback message contains NULL feedback information, reduced feedback information, or channel integrity/quality indicators based on the channel quality information for each sub-channel. Based on the feedback message, the access point may repeat the sounding process, narrow the transmission bandwidth, or select only stations who have indicated uncorrupted channel sounding for MU-MMO transmission.
