    • A method includes receiving energy-related information associated with multiple elements in a hierarchically-arranged domain. The method also includes determining a value of an energy-related metric for each of the elements using the energy-related information. The method further includes generating a graphical user interface using the metric values and presenting the graphical user interface to a user. The graphical user interface includes a treemap having multiple sections, each associated with one of the elements. The graphical user interface also includes a graph displaying energy-related information associated with a selected element. A size of each section in the treemap could be based on a size, importance, energy usage, and/or carbon emission of the associated element. A color and a color intensity of each section in the treemap could be based on the metric value of the associated element and/or a comparison of the absolute energy usage to a baseline.

    • A computer implemented method, system and program product for automatic fault classification. A set of abnormal data can be automatically grouped based on sensor contribution to a prediction error. A principal component analysis (PCA) model of normal behavior can then be applied to a set of newly generated data, in response to automatically grouping the set of abnormal data based on the sensor contribution to the prediction error. Data points can then be identified, which are indicative of abnormal behavior. Such an identification step can occur in response to applying the principal component analysis mode of normal behavior to the set of newly generated data in order to cluster and classify the data points in order to automatically classify one or more faults thereof. The data points are automatically clustered, in order to identify a set of similar events, in response to identifying the data points indicative of abnormal behavior.

    • A graphical user interface (GUI) is used to quickly and easily find data patterns within a data sequence that match a target data pattern representing an event of interest. The user first specifies the target data pattern either by dragging a cursor over the target or by selecting the target from a palette of predefined trend patterns. Search criteria, such as a match threshold and amplitude and duration constraints, are then specified. A pattern recognition technique is then used to find data patterns within the data sequence that satisfy the search criteria. These matching data patterns are then presented to the user ranked by similarity, avoiding the need for the user to sift through large amounts of irrelevant data. Particular pattern recognition algorithms are also disclosed.

    • An operating system for a dual fuel heating system having first and second heat pump stages, first and second gas furnace stages, an executive controller for tracking time increments and call control strategies at appropriate levels, a demand control for calculating the amount of time each heat pump can be on during a predetermined time window, a data storage apparatus, a thermostat, a first predicting module for predicting non-heat pump electrical load based on a moving average, a second predicting module for predicting heat load based on a moving average, and a limiting module for setting demand limits for off-peak, mid-peak and peak periods. The executive controller is operated to initiate operation of the foregoing routines to determine, based on historical building profile information including non-heat pump electric power information the availability of heat pump power with no increase in demand charges during any given incremental interval. In a further aspect of the invention, break even points are calculated to determine the economic feasibility of increasing the demand set point incrementally in a dual fuel system. The system integrates intelligent demand logic and conventional thermostat logic algorithms into a dual fuel control system.
