    • A drying end which comprises a plurality of drying groups. Referring to FIG. 2, each drying group has its own endless support belt (171-175) which travels together with the web alternately over drying cylinders (101-138) and guide rollers. In each drying group, at least some of the drying cylinders lie in a row of cylinders (161-168) which is arranged approximately vertically. Within the first drying group (160/161) the web travels downward through a vertical cylinder row (161), the lower side of the web contacting the cylinders. In the second drying group (162/163), the web first of all travels upward, the upper side of the web contacting the cylinders. At least two drying groups have two vertical cylinder rows (162-167). Referring to these later two groups, the rows of guide rollers in one drying group are arranged outside the corresponding cylinder rows, and in the other drying group the guide rollers are arranged inside the cylinder rows.

    • A method facilitates simultaneously balancing mechanically coupled, synchronously rotating rotors. The rotors have different axes of rotation relative to one another and together define a rotor group to be balanced. Each rotor has at least one of a bearing plane and an other measuring plane associated therewith, the other measuring plane significantly describing vibrations of the each rotor. The rotors within the rotor group together have a number of different angular velocities associated therewith. At least one rotor of the rotor group is equipped with at least one vibration pickup in at least one of each bearing plane and the other measuring plane thereof. As many impulse and phase transmitters are installed in the rotor group as are provided the number of different angular velocities associated with the rotors within the rotor group. At least pertaining vibration signals and a pertaining speed signal are recorded simultaneously, with regard to a respective one of each bearing plane and the other measuring plane. For each bearing plane and the other measuring plane, the coefficients of influence thereof are determined by applying a method of coefficients of influence and setting defined test unbalances. At least one corresponding matrix of coefficients of influence is generated, and a counterbalance mass distribution from the at least one corresponding matrix of coefficients of influence is determined for every operating balance plane of the rotor group. Each bearing plane and measuring plane define one test balance plane.

    • Process and apparatus for drilling holes in a shell of a paper machine cylinder, which is in its operating position. The process includes fixing a drilling apparatus to a cylinder adjacent to the cylinder to be drilled, and substantially eliminating influences of mechanical play due to structures of the adjacent cylinder prior to drilling, which includes coupling a support member to the adjacent cylinder to exert tangential forces on the adjacent cylinder, whereby the mechanical play is substantially eliminated. The apparatus includes a stationary framework supportable on the paper machine, a feed frame that is radially movable along said stationary framework relative to the shell, a drive unit, a plurality of drilling modules coupled to said feed frame, which are rotatable via the drive unit, a fixing device couplable to and adjacent cylinder, a device for eliminating influence of mechanical play due to structures of said adjacent cylinder, and support members adapted to exert tangential forces on said adjacent cylinder.
