    • An antenna assembly for receiving the GPS signals in a global positioning system (GPS) receiver module automatically orients the antenna to better receive the GPS signals. The antenna is oriented by a positioner (e.g., a counterweight) that automatically rotates a frame on which the antenna is mounted. The GPS receiver module may also include multiple antennas oriented in different directions to maintain good reception of the GPS signals in any position. The multiple antennas are oriented in a manner so that the poor reception range an antenna is covered by other antennas. Signals from multiple antennas may be combined or chosen for processing by a GPS processor. Also, multiple GPS receiver modules may be deployed in close proximity so that wireless communication between the GPS receiver modules may be established.

    • The present invention provides a digital-based mechanism for adjusting the power consumption in an integrated digital circuit such as a processor. The processor includes one or more functional units and a digital throttle that monitors activity states of the processor's functional units to estimate the processor's power consumption. One embodiment of the digital throttle includes one or more gate units, a monitor circuit, and a throttle circuit. Each gate unit controls the delivery of power delivery to a functional unit of the processor and provides a signal that indicates the activity state of its associated functional unit. The monitor circuit determines an estimated power consumption level from the signals and compares the estimated power consumption with a threshold power level. The throttle circuit adjusts the instruction flow in the processor if the estimated power consumption level exceeds the threshold power level.

    • A plurality of configuration parameters for setting a device are determined by setting one or more performance parameters. The performance parameters are end-results of configuration that a user desires to achieve by setting the configuration parameters on a device. By setting the performance parameters instead of multiple configuration parameters, the user can conveniently achieve desired performance on the device without having to try many combinations of configuration parameters. When the user sets a performance parameter value, a set of configuration parameters corresponding to the performance value is computed or retrieved. The performance parameters may be set using a user interface element such as a slider that is intuitive and easy to manipulate.
