    • An optical trap (and alignment device) having a light source for generating first and second light beams, and a pair of lenses for focusing the light beams to a trap region in a counter-propagating manner for trapping a particle in the trap region. A light source illuminates the trap region with a third beam of light, and a camera is positioned for capturing a portion of each of the first, second and third light beams. Actuators exert forces on generally rigid portions of optical fiber used to deliver the first and second light beams to the trap region, such that the generally rigid portions pivot about pivot points located at supported members from which the optical fibers extend. Position sensitive detectors measure the position of the beams leaving the optical fibers, and feed position signals back to the actuator drivers to ensure proper positioning of the beams.

    • A shift code that consists of N-symbol code words is provided as an L-symbol “master sequence” in which no sub-sequence of N symbols repeats, where L≦SN and S is the number of code symbols. A decoder determines a location in the code from N decoded symbols. The code locations may, for example, correspond to radial positions, or other position, times, and so forth. In one embodiment, the master sequence is continuously written to a data storage disk during a spiral write operation and a reader on a given circular track reads at least N symbols from the portion of the spiral that crosses the track and determines a code word. The radial position of the reader is then determined based on the location of the code word in the code.

    • A method is provided for forming a monolithically integrated optical filter, for example, a Fabry-Perot filter, over a substrate (10). The method comprises forming a first mirror (16) over the substrate (10). A plurality of etalon material layers (32, 34, 36, 38) are formed over the mirror (16), and a plurality of etch stop layers (42, 44, 46) are formed, one each between adjacent etalon material layers (32, 34, 36, 38). A photoresist is patterned to create an opening (54) over the top etalon material layer (38) and an etch (56) is performed down to the top etch stop layer (46). An oxygen plasma (58) may be applied to convert the etch stop layer (46) within the opening (54) to silicon dioxide (57). The photoresist patterning, etching, and applying of an oxygen plasma may be repeated as desired to obtain the desired number of levels (82, 84, 86, 88). A second mirror (72) is then formed on each of the levels (82, 84, 86, 88).

    • Methods and systems are provided for obtaining information related to a customer service location and directions for routing a service technician from one customer service location to another. One embodiment includes requesting at least one set of coordinates associated with the customer service location; accessing a technician server to direct a global satellite positioning system to obtain the set of coordinates for the customer service location; obtaining the coordinates and updating one or more databases with said coordinates. The coordinates may include at least one of a latitude and a longitude associated with the customer service location. Another embodiment includes obtaining through a technician server at least one set of “from” coordinates associated with the first customer service location and at least one set of “to” coordinates associated with the second customer location; transmitting the “from” and “to” coordinates to a mapping system; and, generating directions in the mapping system based on the “to” and “from” coordinates. At least one of the sets of coordinates includes latitude and longitude data. System and computer-readable media embodiments of these methods are also provided.
