摘要： A urinary incontinence device is disclosed which includes a first absorbent and a second absorbent. The first absorbent has a width and the second absorbent is positioned adjacent to the first absorbent. The second absorbent has a width that is less than about 80% of the width of the first absorbent. The first and second absorbents are formed into a softwind that is compressed into an elongated pledget having a cross-sectional area. The first and second absorbents are capable of absorbing fluid and expanding the cross-sectional area of the pledget. The second absorbent causing a portion of the cross-sectional area of the pledget to expand farther outward to provide a supportive backdrop for a woman's urethra when inserted into a woman's vagina.

The device includes a resilient member and a non-absorbent which at least partially encloses the resilient member. The non-absorbent and the resilient member are formed into an elongated softwind having a first end and a second end. The softwind is folded upon itself such that the first and second ends are aligned adjacent to one another and the softwind contains at least two folds therebetween. The resilient member extends between at least two of the folds. The softwind is then compressed into an elongated pledget having an insertion end and a trailing end with the resilient member located at least in the insertion end. The resilient member is capable of expanding at least a portion of the pledget to provide a supportive backdrop for a woman's urethra when inserted into a woman's vagina. The method includes the steps of enclosing the resilient member by the non-absorbent, folding the two materials to form a softwind, folding the softwind into a generally M-shape configuration and then compressing the softwind into an elongated pledget.

摘要： An expandable dome-shaped urinary incontinence device is disclosed along with a method of making the device. The device includes a resilient member and a non-absorbent which at least partially encloses the resilient member. The non-absorbent and the resilient member are formed into an elongated softwind having a first end, a second end, a first portion located adjacent to the first end, a second portion located adjacent to the second end and a third portion located between the first and second portions. The softwind is folded upon itself, such that the first and second ends are aligned adjacent to one another and a closed loop is formed. The first and second portions are then brought together to minimize the closed loop and the third portion is transformed into a dome shape. The softwind is then compressed into an elongated pledget having an insertion end and a trailing end with the resilient member located at least in the insertion end. The resilient member is capable of expanding at least a portion of the third portion to provide support for a woman's urethra when properly inserted into a woman's vagina. The method includes the steps of enclosing the resilient member by the non-absorbent, folding the two materials to form a softwind, folding the softwind such that a closed loop is formed and transforming the closed loop into a dome shape, and then compressing the softwind into an elongated pledget.

摘要： Generally, a vaginal insert device used to treat urinary incontinence is disclosed. The vaginal insert device includes a support portion, a stabilizing portion, a removal device, and at least one fluid passageway extending though the support portion. The substantially cylindrical support portion has a distal end and a proximal end. In addition, the support portion has a plurality of foldable areas extending from the distal end to the proximal end. Desirably, the plurality of foldable areas helically curve as the plurality of foldable areas extend from the distal end to the proximal end. The largest outer circumference of the support portion has an insertion diameter when the plurality of foldable areas are compressed and foldable inward and an in-use diameter wherein the plurality of foldable areas are extended outward into a maximum in-use diameter position. Desirably, the in-use diameter is larger than the insertion diameter.
