    • A safety delineator is provided having either a conical or a tubular body portion, which has an improved handle feature permitting easy and comfortable full hand gripping of the delineator. The invention additionally solves a longstanding problem common to prior art support bases for delineators and the like, by providing a convenient handle, molded integrally with the support base element, for picking up the base. The inventive handle not only provides a convenient means for grabbing the delineator, but it also provides an additional advantage with respect to conical delineators, in that it prevents them from sticking together when they are stacked. Two types of inventive support bases are disclosed. One is a base molded from a heavy solid material, such as rubber, and includes additional advantageous features such as anti-skid grippers on the bottom surface of the base element and stacking rings molded onto the upper surface of the base element for assisting in compactly stacking a plurality of bases. The second type is molded from resilient plastic, and adapted to be filled with a ballast material such as sand. This base is advantageously molded to provide a funnel structure for filling the ballast chamber, which, after the filling step is completed, is cut off. The base element edges are then sealed to permanently seal the ballast chamber. Additional features of this type of base are its dome-like configuration and the provision of corrugations on its bottom surface, both of which contribute to its crush resistance.

    • A traffic barricade of the A-frame type constructed of a lightweight material such as plastic to have a forbidding appearance. The barricade members are unitarily constructed to be interchangeable and with integral hinge mechanisms. The hinge mechanisms have detenting elements for improving the resistance to winds tending to cause the closure of the "A" stance of the barricade. The barricade permits a damaged hinge element to be readily replaced. Ballast may be added to a storage compartment arranged adjacent the supporting surface for the barricade. The design of the plastic barricade permits a warning light to be directly secured by a mounting bolt functioning as a hinge pin. The individual barricade members may be stacked with substantially no relative movement of the stacked members.

    • A portable sign stand comprises a mast for supporting an article (preferably a sign) thereon and a plurality of support legs for supporting the mast. A heart plate assembly comprises a heart plate for pivotally receiving and attaching to top ends of each of the plurality of support legs and a center tube having a hollow interior for slidably receiving the inner mast. The center tube extends upwardly a predetermined distance from a top edge of the heart plate. This predetermined distance is at least two inches in order to protect a user's fingers in the event of an inadvertent or intentional dropping of the inner mast downwardly through the hollow interior of the center tube to its minimum height position. In the most preferred embodiments, the minimum predetermined distance is at least about four inches, because this distance permits an average user's hand to be entirely wrapped about the center tube without the risk of a pinch injury if the mast is suddenly dropped to its minimum height position.

    • A water-ballasted barrier system incorporates a concave reflective design, wherein outer walls of the barrier segment are configured in a concave manner. The concave section is designed to prevent the tire of a vehicle, impacting the barrier, from climbing up the side of the barrier segment, by pocketing the tire in the curved center portion of the barrier wall. Adjacent barrier segments are attached together using an interlocking knuckle design, having a lug pin connection system.     • A lifting ring assembly is designed for lifting barrels that have at least a partial circumferential radial extension above an outer diameter. The lifting ring comprises a split ring and a cross brace. The split ring comprises two half ring segments having mutually attachable ends. The inner diameter of the split ring is smaller than the outer diameter of the partial circumferential radial extension. The cross brace comprises first and second rigid arms having top ends and bottom ends. The top ends are mutually pivotally connected by a pivoting mechanism. The bottom ends are fixedly connected to a midpoint of the half ring segments, respectively, such that the cross brace is perpendicularly oriented to the split ring and the rigid arms pivot in a vertical plane. The lifting ring may be modified to lift with a fork lift truck with a cable loop that extends from the pivoting mechanism. Two semi-circular inserts that are removably attached to respective half ring segments may be disposed on the split ring and extend radially inwardly. The attached semi-circular inserts reduce the inner diameter of the split ring allowing for drums of different outer diameters. An aspect of the invention may be fabricated with aluminum for strength, low weight, and cost.
