    • The present invention provides an assembly (10) for transferring a liquid between a vial (56) and a syringe (66). The assembly includes a housing (12) having a central portion (15), the housing being open at one end (19) and having a vial socket (16) at the other opposite end (17) adapted to receive and retain a vial having a penetrable closure (62). The housing further includes a sleeve (26) located within the central portion of the housing. The sleeve has a first portion (28a), a second portion (30) adjacent the first portion, and a shoulder (32) between the first portion and the second portion. The assembly also includes a protractible luer adaptor (14) with a central hub (44) having a first axial end and a second opposite axial end. The first axial end has a hollow piercing member (48) with a tip having an opening mounted thereon and the second axial end has an engaging member (38) for releasably engaging a syringe, the hollow piercing member, the central hub, and the engaging member being in fluid communication with one another. The protractible luer adaptor is longitudinally slidable within the sleeve between a retracted position where the hollow piercing member is substantially contained within the central portion of the housing and an advanced position where the tip of the hollow piercing member extends into the vial socket.

    • The present invention provides for a system and method for integrating an electric motor with an electromagnetic brake. An integral field cup and front end shield is employed to function as both a brake field cup and a motor end shield. The integral field cup and front end shield houses a bearing assembly for the motor and an electromagnetic coil for the brake. Moreover, the integral field cup and front end shield operatively encloses the opposite drive end of the motor. In addition, an internal fan is positioned at the opposite drive end of the motor outside the brake and is operable to cool both the brake and the motor.

    • Apparatus comprising a rotary supporting table for moving circumaxial series of work holders in a predetermined circular path. Each work holder comprises an upright pin adapted to receive on and about itself a coil spring and a base member. The base member takes the form of an electrically conductive electrode part. At a loading station, springs are deposited successively on the pins and the table is indexed to move the pins and springs to a stress relieving station. Prior to the stress relieving station, a rotary brush engages the springs and indexes them about their pins to bring an end surface of an end coil into engagement with a small vertical abutment on the base member. The base members have inclined seating surfaces for the side surfaces of the end coils of the springs. At the stress relieving station, an upper electrode is moved into engagement with an upper-most coil of the spring to set the spring slightly and a second part of a lower electrode is moved into engagement with the electrically conductive base member or first electrode part. The spring is then resistance heated for stress relief and thereafter passes through a cooling tunnel having an air blower associated therewith. At a spring setting station, a vertically reciprocable ram engages each spring at an upper portion and compresses the spring about its supporting pin whereby to set the same. An unloading device is provided at an unloading station and comprises a caliper type spring gripping device which is slidable vertically and swingable horizontally through approximately 90.degree.. The gripping device engages a spring and lifts the same from its supporting pin to thereupon swing it horizontally for discharge into an appropriate discharge chute.

    • A fuel fired appliance exhaust gas parameter sensor for continually detecting gas parameter emissions, such as CO, NOx and O2, may be located above the appliance near the appliance exhaust outlet. The sensor may be located near or under a draft hood located near the exhaust outlet. The sensor remains relatively cool by draft air moving from outside the draft hood and into a chimney, the draft being hastened by the heated, rising chimney gases. A sensor bracket may be attached to the appliance and the sensor to appropriately position the sensor under the draft hood. Alternatively, the sensor may be located on a tube that continually samples combustion exhaust. The tube may be located outside of the draft hood perimeter to maintain a low sensor temperature, while multiple tube coils around the exhaust outlet may be used to further cool the sampled gas.
