    • A spin stabilized and drag-stabilized, blunt impact, non-lethal projectile is provided, having a rigid base and rigid windscreen, with a compressible body therebetween, thereby enabling use thereof in high pressure/compression firing mechanisms, but yet operable to compress/deform upon impact with a target. In particular, a spin stabilized, blunt impact, non-lethal projectile is provided having a rigid windscreen and base, with a compressible body therebetween which compresses/deforms upon impact with a target. In addition, a drag-stabilized version thereof is provided, having canted fins thereon so as to control flight of the projectile via the imposition of drag thereon. Additionally, the projectile is capable of carrying agents, such as crowd control and marking agents, in an agent reservoir, and ejecting same onto a target upon impact.

    • The present invention provides a controlled deceleration projectile, in particular, a projectile having a nose-mounted fuze thereon, which initiates an ignition/expulsion charge via an ignition shaft in the interior portion of the projectile body at a preset distance from target impact, resulting in inflation of the projectile body with propellant gases to a level sufficient to either expand same, rupturing of a rupture ring, or sliding of the hollow projectile body rearwards relative to the ignition shaft, so as to create an annular opening between the projectile body side wall and projectile body forward end. The payload, which is preferably non-lethal, is then ejected from this annular opening, the resulting forward velocity of the expelled payload and propellant gases producing a rearward thrust on the projectile, and a concomitant deceleration thereof. Additional means of reverse thrust are also provided, involving the expulsion of rear ballast or rocket thrust from rear chamber ports disposed within the projectile.

    • A vehicle restraint system is provided, comprised of an easily installable and transportable base having a deployable vehicle retention means contained therein. In particular, a rigid base over which vehicles may drive is provided, having a deployable vehicle retention means, such as a net or flexible panel, disposed in the base. In addition, lockable rollers, deployable plates and tire puncturing devices are disposed in the base, to prevent or resist movement of the vehicle relative to the base. The base is merely laid upon a surface, and requires no mounting thereto. Upon impact with a vehicle, the vehicle is retained on the base, and the forward motion/inertia of the vehicle is depleted via frictional engagement (sliding) of the base over the mounting surface, wherein the base and vehicle come to a controlled stop within a short distance.

    • A mascara applicator includes an applicator wand and a container therefor. The wand includes a handle, a stem extending from the handle, and a brush attached to the stem and extending transversely relative to the stem. The container forms an internal chamber which contains mascara and in which the stem and brush can be inserted. The container forms a channel extending perpendicular to an axis of the stem for enabling the brush to be inserted into or removed from the container. The handle includes a sealing lug which seals across the channel when the applicator wand is installed in the container. To remove the wand, the wand is moved in a first direction parallel to the stem axis to bring the brush into alignment with the channel; then the wand is moved in a second direction perpendicular to the stem axis to move the brush through the channel.

    • An improved metal oxide hydrogen battery including an outer pressure vessel and a plurality of cell modules are stacked in side-by-side relation in the vessel. Each cell module is generally rectangular in configuration and includes positive and negative terminals which are located centrally of the cell module. Each cell module is sealed within a rigid plastic casing and the casing is provided with a vent which permits the flow of gas but is impermeable to the flow of the liquid electrolyte contained within the cell module. A heat transfer member is disposed between adjacent cell modules and includes an outer cylindrical flange which is disposed in heat transfer relation with the inner wall of the pressure vessel. The peripheral edge of each casing is engaged with the inner surface of the respective flange to position the cell module within the vessel. Electrical conductors extend in sealed relation through the wall of the casing and connect the terminals of the cell modules in an electrical circuit.

    • A rechargeable metal oxide-hydrogen battery including an outer pressure vessel and a plurality of cell modules are disposed within the vessel. Each module is formed of a pair of back-to-back positive electrodes spaced apart by a separating layer, and a negative electrode having a hydrophilic surface is disposed adjacent each positive electrode and separated therefrom by a separator layer. An electrolyte, such as potassium hydroxide, is impregnated in the separator layers and is in contact with the positive and negative electrodes. Each module is semi-circular in planar configuration and is contained in an open-ended semi-cylindrical container formed of a polymeric material. A plurality of containers are stacked in side-by-side relation. The curved peripheral edges of the stacked containers are disposed adjacent the inner surface of the vessel, while the straight open ends of the containers are sealed and disposed in opposed relation to the sealed open ends of a second stack of module-containing containers. A plurality of metal tabs are connected to the straight edges of the positive and negative electrodes of each module and the tabs are connected by bus bars in a manner to obtain the desired voltage output for the battery. Electrical leads are connected to terminals on the battery and extend in sealed relation through a fitting in a head of the vessel to the exterior.
