    • An ink jet printing method by means of an electrostatic type ink jet printing apparatus, in which charging stages forming one scanning line on a recording sheet paper are divided into groups, ink droplets for printing each group being so charged that they impinge on the scanning line at intervals of a predetermined number of stages, the groups having starting stages different from each other, which results in that the influence of the aerodynamic resistance due to the preceding ink droplets on the ink droplet concerned and that of the Coulomb's force due to the preceding and neighboring ink droplets on the ink droplet concerned are suppressed to the minimum and, consequently, the quality of printing is considerably improved.

    • A deflection detector for an ink jet printer comprises first and second plates made of an insulating material and bonded to each other. The first insulator plate is provided with at least two separate detection electrodes on its one surface and a shield electrode at its other surface, while the second insulator plate is provided with a shield plate on its one surface and bonded to the first plate at the other surface. The first and second plates are formed with aligned slots which also extend throughout the electrodes to pass ink droplets therethrough. The thickness of each detection electrodes corresponds to an interval between successive ink droplets. The deflection detector is positioned such that the plate containing the detection electrodes is substantially perpendicular to a specific reference path for deflection.

    • A photoconductive drum is formed with a photoconductive dielectric layer for producing an electrostatic image and an endless transfer belt is formed with a dielectric layer thereon. A toner substance is applied to the drum to produce a toner image, and a copy sheet is pressed between the belt and drum to transfer the toner image to the copy sheet. An electric potential of the same polarity as the electrostatic image is applied to the copy sheet to attract the toner from the drum onto the copy sheet. The potential has a magnitude which is slightly less than a magnitude at which charge transfer from the belt to the drum occurs due to dielectric breakdown through the copy sheet or field emission from the copy sheet to the drum which would degrade the electrostatic image. The method enables a large number of copies to be produced from a single electrostatic image through repeated development and transfer.
