    • A vibration damping mechanism for use in a disc brake which can effectively suppress squeaks of the disc brake during braking. Vibrations of the rotor are detected by a piezoelectric element pressed against the back of an inner pad. The detection signal is inputted in a control circuit. The control circuit applies a control signal to another piezoelectric element which produces oscillations having a frequency that can reduce the detection signal to zero. The oscillations produced by the piezoelectric element are transmitted to the rotor to cancel the vibrations of the rotor. With this arrangement, signal components other than the rotor vibrations are scarcely contained in the detection signal, so that it is possible to produce oscillations that can cancel vibrations of the rotor with high accuracy. As a result, the rotor vibrations and thus squeaks of the disc brake are effectively suppressed.

    • A vibration damper system which can restore the performance of piezoelectric elements that have deteriorated in performance due to temperature buildup resulting from repeated braking operations by applying high voltage at a predetermined time. In the vibration damper system for a vehicle brake including a vibration detector for detecting vibration by pads and a disk rotor and adapted to transmit a vibration damping signal to a vibrator through a control circuit to suppress vibration, when a performance deterioration restoration timing signal is inputted from the ignition switch, the control circuit produces a performance restoration command signal to changeover switches, thus applying high voltage from a high voltage source for a predetermined time (about one second) to restore deteriorated piezoelectric properties.

    • A phase shifter according to this invention comprises circuit groups on a phase advance side and on a phase retardation side in each of which N phase shifting circuits of constant amplitude are connected in cascade, and in which the time constants of the successive phase shifting circuits are set at a geometrical progression of a fixed ratio .alpha., while the time constants of the phase shifting circuits on the phase retardation side are made .beta. times greater than those of the corresponding phase shifting circuits on the phase advance side. Thus, any desired phase difference can be attained according to the value .alpha., while a desired phase difference can be attained according to the value .beta., and the limits of a frequency band width are eliminated by increasing the number of stages N of the cascade connection of each circuit group.
