    • A method for providing an assignment acknowledgement includes receiving a forward link overhead channel message at an access terminal (AT), the overhead channel message including parameters used to indicate which shared control channel (SCCH) message data blocks are to be acknowledged by the AT and the timing for transmitting the assignment acknowledgment. The method further includes receiving a forward link SCCH signal having SCCH data blocks, decoding the SCCH data blocks according to parameters provided by the overhead channel message, detecting a change in access terminal assignment for the AT based upon the SCCH signal, and receiving forward link packet data, or transmitting reverse link data packet at the AT via the assigned data channel. Additional operations include identifying an offset which defines that a certain number of subpackets of the packet data have been transmitted before an assignment acknowledgement is to be transmitted, and transmitting the assignment acknowledgement according to the offset to indicate successful decoding of one of the SCCH data blocks only if the packet data has not been acknowledged

    • A code division multiple access (CDMA) communications system comprises a plurality of CDMA transmitters and at least one reception station coupled together by a communications channel. Each CDMA transmitter encodes a digital signal with a spreading code, each bit of the digital signal being encoded by a spreading code segment comprising a multiplicity of chips. All of the transmitters transmit their respective encoded signals to the reception station asynchronously via the communications channel so as to occupy the same bandwidth. Each receiver receives the combined signals of all of the transmitters and correlates it with a selected one of the spreading code segments to detect the digital signal from the corresponding transmitter. Each receiver uses also the signal-to-noise ratios of detected signals other than its own, with respect to chip delays relative to a reference one of the signals, to suppress multiple access interference (MAI) caused by such other detected signals.

    • Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate improved multi-mode system selection in a wireless communication system. As described herein, various techniques can be utilized to synthesize system databases corresponding to disparate groups of radio access technologies (RATs), such as a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) list and/or a Preferred Roaming List (PRL), with one or more overlay databases and associated location information to generate a multi-mode list of preferred systems. As described herein, a preferred system listing can be constructed to leverage fine granularity of information in one or more databases while still supporting databases with coarser information. Techniques are additionally described herein for augmenting and/or grouping one or more overlay databases to facilitate a higher available granularity of information for various RATs than that provided in system databases corresponding to the RATs. Techniques are additionally provided for automated generation of preferred system listing based on changes to observed location.
