    • A system, method and computer-usable medium are disclosed for recovering data from a memory storage device. The operating system (OS) of an IPS comprising a source memory storage device, further comprising stored data, is monitored to detect a defective operating state. If a defective operating state of the OS is detected, then operation of the IPS is terminated, followed by the initiation of IPS boot operations to recover data from the source memory storage device. The OS is bypassed, and initial boot operations are performed from a management controller or from the BIOS of the IPS. Additional boot operations are performed, and once the IPS has been brought to an operative state, a data recovery module is used to transfer data from the source memory storage device to a target storage device.

    • A method for determining the suitability of a copper line, used for transmitting voice band signals and having one or more user devices coupled thereto for transmitting signals on the copper line, for use in transmitting data signals out-of-band with the voice band signals is provided. The method includes applying a test signal at one point in the copper line. The test signal has a known relationship to a particular out-of-band data transmission scheme. A response of the copper line to the test signal is monitored, as influenced by the one or more user devices. The monitoring takes place at about the point where the test signal was applied. The suitability of the copper line for data transmission using the particular out-of-band data transmission scheme is determined based on the monitored response of the copper line. A method for determining the suitability of a communication line for transmitting data using an out-of-band data transmission protocol is provided. The communication line has a plurality of user devices attached thereto, and the method includes providing a test signal on the communication line having a known relationship to the out-of-band data transmission protocol; monitoring a response of the communication line to the test signal as influenced by the user devices; determining the suitability of the communication line for use in transmitting data signals using the particular out-of-band data transmission protocol based on the response; disconnecting at least one of the user devices from the communication line; and repeating the providing, monitoring, and determining steps to determine if the at least one user device disconnected from the communication line is an interfering device.

    • A communications system includes a plurality of lines, a modulator/demodulator, a processing unit, and a negotiation unit. The modulator/demodulator is coupled to the lines and adapted to communicate data over the lines using a plurality of tone sets. Each tone set is associated with a particular line. The processing unit has an amount of available processing resources for supporting the modulator/demodulator and is adapted to generate resource availability data based on the amount of available processing resources. The negotiation unit is adapted to receive the resource availability data from the processing unit and determine a subset of available tones within each tone set based on the resource availability data. The modulator/demodulator is adapted to communicate data on each line using the subset of available tones. A method for allocating the resources of a communications system includes determining an amount of available processing resources for a processing unit. The processing unit is adapted to support a plurality of connections over a plurality of lines. Each connection has an associated tone set for communicating data. A first connection is established over a first line. A first portion of the available processing resources is allocated to the first connection. A first tone range is determined based on the first portion. The first tone range is a subset of the tone set associated with the first line.
