    • Disclosed is a pre-equalizer, a vestigial sideband (VSB) transmission system using the pre-equalizer, and a VSB transmission method. A first transmit signal is stored in a first memory, and a pre-equalizer pre-equalizes the first transmit signal based on a set tap coefficient. A transmitter modulates the pre-equalized first transmit signal, and sends the modulated signal. The first transmit signal is fed back to a receiver, which demodulates the transmitted first transmit signal and stores the demodulated signal as the second transmit signal in a second memory. Subsequently, the pre-equalizer calculates a tap coefficient based on an error value as the difference between the first transmit signal and the second transmit signal, and updates the set tap coefficient based on the calculated tap coefficient.

    • Provided is a modulation apparatus that can reduce time delay of on-channel repeaters in a terrestrial digital television broadcasting system. The time delay is caused by a filter during the modulation operation in the on-channel repeaters. The modulation apparatus of the present research includes: a baseband signal forming unit for forming a baseband signal by combining the output signals of an equalization unit with the pre-defined field/segment synchronization signals in the on-channel repeaters; a pilot inserting unit for inserting a pilot signal to the baseband signal; an up-sampling unit for up-sampling the baseband signal with the pilot signal; a VSB filtering unit for filtering the up-sampled baseband signal based on a Window technique and/or an Equi-Ripple filter to thereby form an in-phase (I) signal and a quadrature (Q) signal; an up-converting unit for up-converting the frequencies of the filtered I and Q signals to frequencies of an intermediate frequency (IF) band; an adding unit for adding the up-converted I and Q signals and converting a resultant signal into a digital VSB signal of the IF band; and a digital-to-analogue converting unit for converting the digital signal of the IF band to an analogue signal.

A method of encoding public traffic information according to the present invention creates an identifier of bus information system, an ID of bus route, and location information of each in-service bus pertaining to the bus route. The location information is expressed in a stop ID that is uniquely allocated to all of bus stops within coverage of BSI (Bus Service Information) service. The created information is organized to status information that is in turn incorporated into a transfer message. A sequence of transfer messages, each being constructed as described above, is wirelessly transmitted.

    • Provided is a Vestigial Side Band Digital Television (DTV) transmitter/receiver based on Advanced Television System Committee A/53. The invention provides DTV transmitter/receiver having a dual stream structure through generation of robust data which has a transmission rate a fourth as fast as that of normal data, and a method thereof. The DTV transmitter includes: input means for receiving digital video data stream including normal and robust data; encoding means for performing ¼ rate coding on the digital video data stream so that one bit can be transmitted through two symbols; and transmitting means for modulating/transmitting output signals of the encoding means. This invention can reduce SNR and satisfy TOV of robust data by performing additional FEC on robust data, transmitting/receiving ¼ rate coded robust data, which are capable of transmitting one-bit data for two symbols, and improving decoding ability of an equalizer and a trellis decoder of a DTV receiver.

    • Disclosed are a method and a system for estimating food commodity intakes. The method includes (a) obtaining a food intake of a food searched as a subject to be estimated for food commodity intake based on food intake database, (b) obtaining a material mix ratio of the food searched based on the material mix ratio database and estimating a material mix ratio intake using the food intake, (c) detecting whether or not the material contained in the material mix ratio intake estimation results is a food commodity, (d) accumulating a weight data of the material that is detected to be a food commodity among the materials obtained from the material mix ratio intake estimation results, (e) repeatedly performing operations (b) to (d) on materials that are not food commodities, until all of the materials contained in the material mix ratio intake estimation results become food commodities, and (f) summing the accumulated weight data of each food commodity to estimate a food commodity intake of the food, when all of the materials contained in the material mix ratio intake estimation results are food commodities. According to the present invention, more accurate food intake data can be conveniently estimated by converting all ingredients of mixed foods into food commodities.
