摘要： An apparatus for manufacturing suture-needle assemblies in which the suture thread is connected to the needle shank through the provision of heat shrinkable tubing. The apparatus for securing the heat shrink tubing to the shank of the needle essentially comprises a needle holder, a heat source, a video camera and monitor device and means for insuring heating of the tubing only at the shank. An apparatus is also disclosed for securing the suture thread to the needle shank where the needle shank is already provided with the heat shrink tubing secured thereon. The apparatus for securing the suture thread to the needle shank includes a needle holder, a heat source, a heat cover to create a heating chamber, as well as video camera and monitor means to enlarge the image for an operator, as well as temperature regulating equipment.

Attachment is accomplished by means of a shrinkable tubing which is fitted about the shank of the needle and an end of the suture, application of heat to the tubing effecting its shrinkage with consequent secure attachment of the needle to the suture. Rounding of the butt end of the needle shank minimizes the possibility that during use, the needle will protrude or rip through the tubing or otherwise compromise the security of the attachment of the needle to the suture.

摘要： An improved surgical stapler for applying a suture to a tissue is provided. The surgical stapler includes handles and a stapling assembly for emplacing a suture and staples into tissue as a purse string suture. Retainer structure, for example, a plurality of guides are provided for releasably retaining a portion of the suture substantially adjacent to the handles. The suture may also be releasably retained substantially adjacent to the handles by passing the suture through a tubular member releasably mounted on one of the handles. A clamp may be used to clamp and secure the suture within the tubular member either before or after removal of the tubular member from the handles.

摘要： A loop threaded needle-suture device is disclosed wherein a surgical needle is provided with a pointed end and a drilled aperture extending axially of the butt end, and a length of flexible suture material is doubled upon itself to form a loop, both free ends of which are attached to the needle in the butt end aperture. The blunt end of the needle is deformed to form the aperture into an elliptical cross-section and the length of the loop is substantially greater than the length of the needle to facilitate insertion of the needle and suture material into tissue to be sutured, and looping the needle through the suture material prior to tieing the suture material. Thus, the loop functions as a double suture. A method of forming the unique loop threaded needle-suture is disclosed.
