摘要： A freeze and thaw indicator is provided utilizing the expansion characteristics of water when it undergoes a change from the liquid state to the solid state. An ampul having one side made weaker than its opposite side is substantially filled with water. Indicator paper having ink printed on one side is situated adjacent to the ampul. The indicator paper and ampul are housed in a blister pack plastic container for protecting the ampul from breakage. When the temperature around the indicator reaches the freezing point of water, the ampul breaks. During a subsequent thawing, the water flows on to the indicator paper causing the ink which is printed on one side to wick up, thereby indicating that the freeze or thaw has taken place.

摘要： An electrolytic cell is suitable for production of aluminium, and includes at least one collector bar made of first metal and at least one complementary bar made of a second metal having an electrical conductivity greater than the first metal and arranged adjacent to one of the side faces of the collector bar so that the external end of the complementary bar is at a specified distance from a specified end face of the block. The second end terminates so as to limit heat losses from said cell. The cell makes it possible to obtain significantly lower voltage drops while avoiding excessive heat losses through the collector bars.

摘要： The redundant regulation valve for controlling fluid flow comprises a valve body defining a passage for the flow of the fluid, a main throttle element movable by means of a main control device to selectively obstruct the passage, and a redundant throttle element movable by means of a redundant control device. When the valve is in its closed position in normal operation, the main element and the redundant element are in contact with each other. In this normal closed position, the main element is close to its fully-extended position in the closure direction and it obstructs only about half of the passage, while the redundant element is in a position of medium extension. The stroke of the redundant element is such that the redundant element can be controlled to obstruct the entire passage even when the main element is in its fully-open position.

摘要： A safety device for coupling one end of a main conduit of a first piping element coaxially to one end of a second piping element. The first piping element has a branch conduit adjacent to the one end of the main conduit, and the device includes an obdurating member inside the main conduit of the first piping element, an operating mechanism connected to the obdurating member and extending from the other end of the main conduit for moving the obdurating member between a first position and a second position to selectively open and close the passage between the one end of the main conduit and the branch conduit, clamping apparatus mounted on the second piping element for clamping the two elements together, and an actuator mounted externally on the second piping element for engagement with the operating mechanism when the two elements are coupled together to move the mechanism between the first and second positions. The obdurating member preferably has a recess facing the one end of the main conduit for housing a ball. Supply and exhaust conduits extend into the recess from the other end of the main conduit so that fluid can be supplied under pressure to drive the ball through the passageway of the second piping element and then can be exhausted to return the ball to the recess, thereby cleaning out the second piping element.

摘要： In the large-scale production of rabies vaccine a cell stock comprising a VERO cell strain and a liquid nutritive medium containing serum and microcarriers suspended therein is successively passed into biogenerators of increasing volume. The last of the passages is carried out in a biogenerator having a volume of at least 150 liters. The liquid nutritive medium is drawn off at the end of the final passage and replaced with a serum-free liquid nutritive medium. The cell stock is inoculated in the last passage biogenerator with virus which is allowed to develop. The virus is then cultured, withdrawn and filtered. The filtered liquid suspension is then ultrafiltered, with inactivated beta-propiolactone and purified by zonal centrifugation or chromatography.
