    • A method for detecting flame and smoke using spatial analysis of video input (40) provided by a video detector. The video input (40) consists of a number of individual frames, wherein analysis is performed on each individual frame to detect and outline regions that may contain smoke or flame (42). Based on the defined outline or boundary of each detected region, spatial features associated with the region are extracted (52), such as perimeter/area and surface area/volume. The extracted spatial features are related to one another (54) to determine the likelihood that the region contains smoke or flame. Extracted spatial features may be related to one another using a power law relationship that provides an indication of the turbulence associated with a bounded region, wherein turbulence is a characteristic of both flame and smoke.

    • An assembly (20) for controlling movement of an automatically moveable door panel (22) includes a sensor (30, 32, 34) positioned on at least one of a door panel (22) or a door frame member (24, 26). The sensitive portion provides an indication of when an object is in contact with or in very close proximity to a sensitive portion. A sensitive portion is established over an area of the door or door frame member at which an object may become caught during automated door movement. A disclosed example includes using an electromechanical film as a sensor so that the sensitive portion is responsive to pressure applied by the object on the sensitive portion. Another disclosed example includes a field effect sensor that generates an electric field that is at least partially interrupted when an object contacts or comes in very close proximity to the sensitive portion. Automated movement of a door is controlled responsive to an indication of the presence of an object in a location where the object may become caught during automatic movement of the door.

    • An elevator control system (18) provides elevator dispatch and door control based on passenger data received from a video processing device (12). The video processing device (12) includes a video processor (14) connected to receive video input from at least one video camera (10) and memory (16). The video processor (14) anonymously monitors passengers using color index analysis of each passenger. Based on the monitored position of each passenger, video process (14) calculates passenger data parameters such as location, direction, speed and estimated time of arrival at an elevator door, and provides one or more of the passenger data parameters to elevator control system (18). Based in part on the passenger data received, elevator controller (18) provides elevator dispatch, elevator door control, and security functions.
