    • An improvement is made in a high resolution clinical fluoroscopic system by utilizing a beam splitter for selectively directing a fluoroscopic image of an X-ray pattern transmitted through a patient to either a low resolution or high resolution television channel. The low resolution channel operates a low magnification level to provide a macroscopic view of an object of interest in order to orient the patient and object of interest within the center of view. Thereafter, the beam splitter is activated to redirect the fluoroscopic image to a zoom lens which magnifies the image. The magnified image is then scanned by a sensitive CCD-type camera to alternatively produce through the video processor a magnified view of the object of interest at variable magnification having submillimeter resolution. Collimation of the X-ray beam is coordinated with the degree of magnification through the zoom lens to provide for contrast resolution without any substantial increase of the X-ray exposure levels.

    • A transfer label machine has a post treatment station for exposing newly applied labels to heat in order to finish and gloss out the label. The heat is applied through a nozzle coupled to a hot air supply system that includes a blower, ductwork, and a heating element disposed in the airflow. A temperature probe measures temperature of the air flow and an IR sensor measures the resulting temperature of containers on which the labels have been applied. A programmable logic controller (PLC) is programmed with proportional integral derivative (PID) algorithms to control the blower speed and the heating element to provide the appropriate amount of heat for the labeling or processing speed at which the labeling machine is operating. A vision system can confirm the quality of label after the post treatment heating. In the event of a machine jam, the blower and/or heating element can be turned off or the air can be shunted away from the containers to reduce greatly the likelihood of a fire, which has occurred with prior art flame based post treatment heating units.

    • A quarter turn quick connect fitting assembly (10) for connecting miniature fluid conduits, such as tubing, includes a first fitting (12) having radially projecting pins (28) and a second fitting (14) located within a rotatable quarter turn nut (16) having spiral grooves (48) which receive the pins. The first fitting defines a central passage (26) and the second fitting defines a central passage (42) which may each be configured to slidably receive a hollow tube set (104), or to threadably receive an externally threaded mating fitting. The quarter turn quick connect fitting can be configured to attach to the end of a column, and can include an adapter (158), which houses a guard column (160), or a frit (188) for filtering the fluid passing through the quarter turn quick connect fitting assembly. The quarter turn quick connect fitting is assembled by sliding the pins of the first fitting into the grooves of the quarter turn nut and rotating the quarter turn nut through approximately 90.degree. with respect to the first fitting, thereby securely seating the pins within angled areas defined at the ends of the grooves.

    • A sensor for detecting the presence of lightweight objects being conveyed on a conveyor of the type having conveyor rollers. Each conveyor roller is rotatively mounted on a shaft fixed between the conveyor side frames. A selected conveyor shaft has non-rotatively mounted thereon a pair of fulcrum bearings, each located between a conveyor side frame and the adjacent end of the roller mounted on the selected shaft. A pair of sensor arms are provided, each rockably mounted on one of the fulcrum bearings. The sensor arms are substantially identical elongated members having upper ends joined by a shaft on which a plurality of sensor rollers are rotatively mounted. The sensor arms are rockable between a normal position wherein the sensor rollers are elevated above the adjacent conveyor rollers, and a fully depressed position wherein the uppermost surface of the sensor rollers are co-planar with the uppermost surface of the adjacent conveyor rollers. An adjustable balance spring balances the sensor arms and rollers to their normal positions. A two-state switching device is mounted on one of the conveyor side frames and is maintained in a first state by the adjacent one of the sensor arms in its normal position, and is released to its second state by the same sensor arm when the same sensor arm is shifted toward its fully depressed position.
