    • An ignition system of an engine has a coil which is spaced away from an igniter to protect the coil from heat of a combustion chamber and combustion gas leakage. The electrical connections between the coil and igniter of current design practice have not performed satisfactorily due to loosening of connections, absorbtion of energy within the connectors and the escape of electrical energy. The present ignition extender overcomes these shortcomings by resiliently biasing a first electrical conducting core into contact with a source of high energy and a second electrical conducting core into contact with an igniter and insulating the first and second electrical conducting cores and a biasing and providng mechanism from the surrounding environment by surrounding them with a first and second telescopingly arranged insulating members. When included in an engine, the extender is combined with a shield to further protect and increase the functional life of the components.

    • A nozzle assembly adapted with an adhesive spray gun for forming a liquid adhesive/gas solution into a foam includes a nozzle formed with a chamber having a rearward end and a forward discharge orifice which is maintained at a pressure less than that required to maintain the gas in solution in the liquid. A turbulence plate having a front surface formed with a notch is mounted to the spray gun such that the notch extends within the rearward end of the chamber. The notch is formed with at least two input ends and a turbulence zone therebetween. The liquid/gas solution is conveyed to each input end of the notch where a separate stream of solution is formed. The streams move along the notch from each input end toward the turbulence zone of the notch where they impact one another within the chamber. Agitation of the liquid/gas solution caused by impacting of the separate streams, in the presence of the reduced pressure within the chamber, results in the partial or initial formation of a homogeneous, closed cell solid foam within the chamber prior to emission from the discharge orifice.

    • An apparatus and method for determining the tuned frequency of a digital repeater (2) solely through the use of external connections. A pulse burst (30) at a preselected transmission frequency, produced by generator circuitry (4), is inserted into repeater (2) to cause the timing circuit of the same to oscillate for a predetermined time interval (25). After burst (30) and during interval (25), a plurality of sequential sampling pulses (26, 27) is fed to repeater (2) and regenerated by same. This format of burst (30) followed by sampling pulses (26, 27) is preferably repeated a number of times. Counter (10) measures the average time interval between the regenerated sampling pulses and determines the tuned frequency.

    • An improved liquid handling needle device for use with the reconstitution of toxic drugs such as those used in chemotherapy and other applications. When diluent, in this example, is added through a septum into a sealed container, a positive pressure builds up. Aerosols containing the reconstituted drugs can be release through the punctured opening exposing personnel to potential contamination. This improved needle device provides a low-cost aerosol resistant vent channel between the outside diameter of the needle and the inside diameter of the tubular member holding it allowing gas diffusion from inside of the sealed container through the vent channel to the outside of the container when said needle device is inserted into the sealed container. This specifically engineered aerosol resistant vent channel prohibits the flow of the aerosol particles from flowing due to the frictional contact of the aerosol particles with either of the opposing walls forming the vent channel causing any aerosol particles to condense and be redirected back into the liquid receiving sealed container, thus providing sterile air venting for both the injecting and withdrawal of fluids.

    • A lubricated ball bearing for use in ball bearing sets is disclosed. The lubricated ball bearing features a lubricating coating applied to its outer surface. The lubricating coating preferably comprises silver, and enables the ball bearing to be utilized in bearing assemblies environments where other lubricants may not be acceptably used, such as in the high vacuum environment of an x-ray tube. The lubricating coating is attached to the ball bearing via an intermediate bonding layer that is interposed between the outer surface of the ball bearing core and the lubricating coating. The intermediate bonding layer, preferably comprising nickel, is chemically bonded to both the ball bearing core and the lubricating coating. This produces a lubricating coating having a high-strength adhesion to the ball bearing such that flaking or degrading of the coating will not occur in the high heat, high vacuum environment of the x-ray tube during x-ray production.

A method for described for identifying at least a media length value for a roll-type media to be printed upon to a printer controller in a printer. The method includes in one embodiment, keeping track of the length of media used during printing operations, prior to removing the roll from the printer, printing an indicia on a remaining portion of the roll which identifies at least the remaining length of the print medium, removing the roll from the printer, reinstalling the removed roll in the printer, reading the indicia to determine the remaining length of the media, and using the remaining length information during subsequent printing operations. The data can be encoded as a grayscale code which is read by the printer's optical sensor, or be a human-readable indicia. The indicia can include media type information and media length information in machine readable form, and a human-readable portion showing the length of the roll. The indicia can include a user-defined code identifying the media.
