    • A sealing device for a bearing includes first and second annular sealing plates (1, 2) accommodated within an annular end space between inner and outer races (11, 12). Each of the first and second sealing plates (1, 2) is of a generally L-shaped section including a cylindrical (16, 26) wall and a radial upright wall (1a, 2a), and an elastic seal lip element (38). The first sealing plate (1) is secured with the radial upright wall (1a) thereof positioned adjacent respective end faces of the inner and outer races (11, 12), and the radial upright wall (1a) of the first sealing plate (1) has a free end remote from the cylindrical wall (1b) of the first sealing plate (1) spaced a predetermined distance from the cylindrical wall (2b) of the second sealing plate (2) to thereby form a radial gap (4). The radial upright wall (1a) of the first sealing plate (1) also has an outer side face (B) set back inwardly from a free end face (A) of the cylindrical wall (2b) of the second sealing plate (2).

    • In an assembly of retainers and tapered rollers to be easily incorporated into an outer ring having a rib portion on an inner peripheral surface on an outboard side thereof, recesses are formed in a large end surface and a small end surface of an outboard side tapered roller. Projections to be inserted into the recesses are formed in an outboard side retainer. A diameter of a circumcircle of the tapered rollers before they are inserted into a hub ring is smaller than an inner diameter of a rib portion. When a hub ring is inserted into the outer ring, the tapered rollers move in a radial direction to cause the diameter of the circumcircle to be greater than the inner diameter dimension of the rib portion, and as a result, the tapered rollers can be received in a specified position.

    • A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus which reduces weight, size and number of parts prevents ingress of rain water or dusts and leakage of differential gear oil is structured as a unit with a wheel hub (1,14) and a double row rolling bearing (2, 15). An inner member (3, 16) includes the wheel hub (1, 14) integrally formed with a wheel mounting flange (6) on one end. The wheel hub inner circumferential surface includes a serration (8). An axially extending cylindrical portion (7) extends from the flange (6). One or more inner rings (10) are press-fit onto the cylindrical portion (7) of the wheel hub (1, 14). The inner rings are formed on their outer circumferential surface with at least one of the inner raceway surfaces (10a). An outer member (4) is arranged around the inner member (3, 16). The outer member (4) is formed with double row outer raceway surfaces (4a) on its inner circumferential surface opposite to the inner raceway surfaces (10a). Double row rolling elements (5) are arranged between the inner and outer raceway surfaces (10a, 4a) of the inner member (3, 16) and the outer member (4). A cage (11) freely rollably holds the rolling elements (5). Seals (12) seal an annular space between the inner member (3, 16) and the outer member (4). A partition wall (9) is integrally formed on the wheel hub (1, 14), at its outboard side, to close a central bore of the wheel hub (1, 14).

    • A wheel support bearing assembly includes inner and outer members (1 and 2) and at least one row of rolling elements (3) operatively interposed between the inner and outer members (1 and 2) and an annular sealing device (5) sealing an open end of an annular space defined between the inner and outer members (1 and 2). The sealing device (5) includes first and second annular sealing plates (11 and 12) fitted to different members out of the inner and outer members (1 and 2). An elastic member (14) mixed with a powdered magnetic material is bonded by vulcanization to the radial wall (11b) of the first sealing plate (11). A protective cover (18) made of a non-magnetic material is positioned on one side adjacent an exterior of the multi-pole magnet (14) with a predetermined air gap left therebetween that the number of revolution can be detected through the protective cover (18).
