摘要： A flexible food package with a wall comprised of thin film layers, one of which has a reduced permeability characteristic that reduces absorption by the package wall of oils associated with the food product in the package. The reduced permeability characteristic is achieved by an enhanced orientation or enhanced crystallinity of the polymers forming the thin film layer. Reducing the amount of oil absorbed by the package wall reduces the amount of swelling, puckering, and disfigurement of the package.

Also method for priming a flexible film substrate to enhance the reactivity or wettability of the substrate for metallization is disclosed. A substrate film is coated with one or more nanolayers of a metal or metal oxide applied by CCVD and/or PECVD at open atmosphere. The deposited coating acts to enhance the surface energy of the film substrate and to and reduce the surface gauge variation of the substrate or supporting film, thereby enhancing the wettability of the film substrate for metallization and/or to improve the anti-block characteristics of the film. The deposited coatings may also act as a barrier layer for lowering the permeability of light, gas and vapor transmission through the substrate.

摘要： A vertical stand-up pouch, flat bottom bag, or flexible package, and method for manufacturing same, constructed by modification to existing vertical form and fill packaging machines. The invention involves producing a vertical stand-up pouch or flat bottom bag from a single sheet of packaging film by forming one or two vertical creases along opposing sides of the packaging film tube prior to forming a transverse seal on the tube. The vertical crease is formed using a pivoting tucker mechanism positioned outside the packaging film tube and between two forming plates positioned inside the packaging film tube. A novel method is also disclosed for adjusting the orientation of labeling on the packaging film, which results in the production of innovative packages.

摘要： A flexible container with a wall structure comprised of multi-layer, flexible thin films, including a first film layer that is affixed to the wall structure by a releasable adherence and that incorporates a removable piece. The removable piece is incorporated into the first film layer such that, other than at least one continuous cut facilitating removal and any conspicuous printing on the removable portion, it is indistinguishable from the rest of the exterior of the package. The continuous cut allows for full or partial detachment of the removable portion from the first film layer so that only the releasable adherence prevents it from separating from the container. The removable piece is removed by peeling it away from the container, where the initiation of the peeling is facilitated by a smaller peel force adjacent the continuous cut. The removable piece may function as a promotional or collectible piece such as a gaming piece or redeemable coupon, or may be designed to retain a tacky surface and function as a sticker or as a piece of tape to close an opened bag. The removable piece can also expose a tacky surface on the container to permit closure of the opened bag.
