    • In a color image forming apparatus, component color images formed by respective image forming stations are sometimes displaced as they are transferred onto recording paper. Therefore, a set pattern image (Q0) with no displacement at all is recorded onto recording paper as a set pattern image (Q1). In this set pattern image, the centers of auxiliary patterns (Y1, C1, M1) are displaced in an auxiliary scan direction off a referential straight line (H) passing through the centers of primary patterns (K1, K1null). The image forming apparatus causes the set pattern image to be read, measures the displacements (nullY1, nullC1, nullM1) of the auxiliary patterns in the auxiliary scan direction off the referential straight line, and adjusts writing timings in the auxiliary scan direction so that the displacements become 0. As a result, the color image recorded on the recording paper shows improved quality. Therefore, the resist of the component color images can be corrected by measuring the displacements of the component color images without being affected by a tilt of the patterns on the recording paper or irregularity in operation of the image forming stations for recording the component color images.

    • A printer includes LED heads and head controllers. Each head controller transfers items of data to a corresponding head over a set of common buses. The LED head has a receiver activated by a corresponding head selecting signal. In one configuration, the common buses may include a selector bus over a data bus. Image data and a group of signals are alternately transferred over the data bus, the group of signals including a latch signal for latching the image data into a corresponding head and a strobe signal for driving a corresponding head in accordance with the image data. The selector signal allows the receiver to direct the image data and the group of signals into separate data paths. In another configuration, the control signals may further include an image clock and a control clock. The common buses may include an image clock bus, a control clock bus, and a data bus over which the image data and the group of signals are alternately transferred, the image data being attended by the image clock and the group of signals being attended by the control clock. In still another configuration, the image data may include a train of image data in which first image data and second image data appear alternately. One receiver receives the first image data on the rising edges of the image clock and another receiver receives the second image data on the falling edges.

The apparatus divides image data in parallel with a main scanning direction by an image divider, stores the divided data in image data memory, and supplies the divided image data to image data temporary memory by an image data supply to perform a decoding process. In order to provide a matching with a process speed, the image data temporary memory temporarily retains the divided image data, and a printer prints an image on a sheet of paper on the basis of the divided image data stored in the image data temporary memory. A predictor predicts a supply process time by way of image data supply, and an image data supply control causes the image data supply to start the supply process of the divided image data at a time preceding the time for the start of the print process by the printer according to the time predicted.

Accordingly, the first to fourth color images are superimposed. Thereby, downsizing of the device and cost reduction are achieved and image formation speed is facilitated.
