    • This invention improves on explosively actuated cable cutters in that it orporates a remote capability of activating the cutter. The improved apparatus comprises an acoustical transducer for receiving a remote coded signal, an electric circuit designed to detect the specific coded signal, a motor and gear mechanism which is initiated upon detection of the remote coded signal to activate the explosively actuated cable cutter.The electronics and motor compartment are hydrostatically sealed and pitted with a pressure switch and a water intrusion fail-safe circuit. The pressure switch is designed to inactivate the apparatus beyond a preset ocean depth, and the water intrusion fail-safe circuit is designed to detect any seawater seepage into the sealed electronics compartment. Upon the detection of such seepage the intrusion fail-safe circuit disconnects the system from the battery thereby removing danger of premature triggering of the cable cutter.

    • An electrically actuable ignition assembly comprising an electric ignition element having insulated electrical leading wires connected by means of conducting metal contact elements to the ends of a secondary winding of insulated wire on a transformer ring core. The transformer core and contacts are preferably encased in a synthetic plastics case. The assembly is for use in blasting operations in which multi-shot rounds are fired from an a.c. supply by electromagnetic coupling of the supply with the secondary winding by means of a single primary wire threaded through the ring cores of a plurality of assemblies. The use of the metal contact elements eliminates the previously used soldered joints between the ignition element leading wires and the transformer secondary winding.

    • A detonating device principally intended for detonating an explosive charge in a well or borehole, and of the type which is actuated by pulling upwardly on a non-electrical line also used to lower the device into position. The device includes self-contained time-delay circuitry which requires a sustained mechanical actuating pull on the line for some predetermined time before an attempt is made to detonate the explosive. The circuitry includes a command switch actuated by pulling on the line, and a safety switch which must be closed before the command switch is closed, either manually or by hydrostatic pressure in the borehole. The circuitry locks in a safe condition if the command switch is closed first, or if one attempt has been made to fire the explosive, whether successful or not, thus allowing removal or repositioning of the device with complete safety.
